Homegirl London’s Interview: Bhavin Taylor Design. Bhavin is an interior designer and stylist known for his signature bold colours and strong patterns. He’s on a mission to cheer up British homes with his new collection of furnishing fabrics, cotton cushions, lambswool blankets and New Zealand wool rugs. These made to order products feature designs conjured up by Bhavin’s past experiences, memories and even his new tattoo. This striking collection is presented in vivid orange and electric blue along with a muted grey. I caught up with him to find out more about Bhavin Taylor Design and the new collection.
Meet the Owner of Bhavin Taylor Design
Bhavin originally studied fashion design and textiles but after various jobs he wasn’t enthralled with the industry and was looking for a change. He tells me – “In 2009 I decided that Interiors was my passion so I promptly quit my job and re-trained at the KLC School of Design. Since then I worked for various design studios in London, Vancouver, New York and Toronto.” Bhavin is the first to admit that working for other people isn’t his thing. He comments – “Whilst working for other designers I thought that if they could start their own business then, why can’t I?”
Bhavin decided to take the plunge in 2014 and set up his own Interior Design Service for residential and commercial clients. To complement this, he launched Home by Bhavin Taylor Design in 2016-17. This is a home range that complements his interior design style. He tells me – “I used my savings to set up my interior design venture which wasn’t an easy ride but it has been worth it and I haven’t looked back. I do pretty much do everything myself but use various contractors and staff as and when I need them. I enjoy building direct relationships with my clients and suppliers. For me, the best part of my job is the smile on the client’s face when they see the designs and knowing that this is all down to my hard work.”
Home by Bhavin Taylor Design Collection
The Home by Bhavin Taylor Design range consists of furnishing fabrics, cushions, blankets and rugs. These are all made in the UK which is important to him. His collection features three bold and colourful designs; Tattoo (in orange, blue and grey options), ZigZag and Paisley. These patterns take inspiration from his Indian Heritage, Interior Design style and a personal tattoo on his forearm! He has used very strong colours of orange and blue which are very striking and certainly make you sit up and take notice. The orange and blue is broken up with grey or white as a stark contrast against the bold colours. As an interior designer and stylist, Bhavin is keen to bring a burst of colour and punchy patterns into people’s homes. He comments – “We live in England, which most of the time is grey so I think that everyone should have colour in their homes to help bring sunshine into their lives.”
The furnishing fabric is digitally printed to order on 100% cotton and can be used for soft furnishings and upholstery. This is a great way for crafters to make their own cushions, curtains or to upholster and re-store a vintage armchair. The fabric is machine washable. Allow up to 4 weeks for delivery.
Just about to be launched will be a selection of cushions which can be used to brighten up even the dullest of sofas. These can be piled together to create a colourful splash on a couch or used solo on an armchair. They will be in the ZigZag and Paisley designs plus Tattoo in Orange, Blue and Grey options. All are made from 100% cotton. These are all 18 inches’ square in size. Allow up to 4 weeks to be printed, made and delivered.
Keep warm with one of Bhavin’s beautiful blankets. There are two designs; ZigZag and Tattoo (in blue and the orange). The material is 100% Geelong Lambswool. The blanket measurements are 130cm x 180 cm. Allow 6-8 weeks to be made.
If you want to liven up your lounge or bedroom, try the luxurious rugs which will be in the ZigZag and Paisley designs. The sizes can be customised to suit your space which is a great idea. They are made from premium 100% New Zealand wool which means they will be soft and sumptuous. Rugs have a 6-8 week lead time.
Inspiration for Bhavin comes from a mix of past experiences and memories which he reflects in his work. He very much admires British interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard – “I think that like me he has a bold design style that is recognised worldwide.”
