Meet the Rose and Grey Owners

Rose and Grey was set up by Lyndsey Goodger back in 2008. Her husband Guy recently joined the venture full time to oversee the smooth running of the company. His business background and experience of working for a charity (advising businesses on social responsibility) will help drive the business forward. Lyndsey explains the benefits of this, “now Guy is on board I can concentrate on the brand, marketing and product buying. These are all the jobs which inspired me to start the business in the first place, so I’m back doing what I love. Being a small team of five (even though the company is growing) Lyndsey and Guy like to have hands-on experience, “you’ll often find us on the other end of the phone chatting to our customers.”

Before becoming an internet entrepreneur, Lyndsey worked for Channel 4 in a very creative role.  She tells me, “I would oversee the marketing and PR plans and run cover photo shoots for the DVD releases. This marketing and photography experience helps with our online store. Inspirational photography is crucial to us, and we have four big photo shoots a year, in addition to smaller ones as often as we can. We want customers to feel inspired by our collection and imagine how they could look in their own home.”

The idea for the business was born out of Lyndsey’s desire to find unusual and interesting accessories and stylish furniture for her home and not being able to source what she wanted. She explains, “I have a huge passion for interiors and now I’m surrounded by the things I love. I get to look at beautiful products all the time now!” Lyndsey explains the decision to become an online retailer, “we’re based in Cheshire and felt our products had a wider appeal. We also get to reach more people than if we had a physical shop. Plus we can hold a much larger range of products which we can add to regularly without the boundaries of space.” The online business also provides Lyndsey with the flexibility to enjoy family life, “we have two young boys at school. I love that one of us can always be there for the school run. Not all people can do that, and I feel that it’s a privilege.”

Lyndsey explains how they decided upon the Rose and Grey name for the business (which is officially spelt Rose & Grey). “Our favourite interiors include white, grey and natural backgrounds mixed with vibrant colour. We felt that the name would encompass that; with ‘Grey’ reflecting that neutral base and ‘Rose’ representing those pops of colour.”

Rose and Grey Product Selection

Lyndsey talks me through the products. “We sell a contemporary mix of furniture and home accessories, with an industrial and vintage influence. We are known for our vintage leather sofas and armchairs. Another winner for us is the industrial-style furniture such as sideboards on wheels, factory-influenced drawers, tables and chairs. On top of that, we also stock wallpaper, lighting, rugs, vases and other delightful decorative objects for the home. We have three rules we follow when choosing our products – they must be beautiful, interesting and practical.” Brands stocked include – House Doctor DK, Madam Stoltz, Bloomingville and reclaimed furniture from One World.
