Shops: Christmas gifts at Liberty London

Liberty London ShopIn the run up to Christmas I’ll be reviewing some of London’s finest stores in a bid to help you find suitable Christmas gifts.  The shop I’m taking a look at today is Liberty London situated on Regent Street, London W1 which is just perfect for buying Christmas gifts for quirky, curious, individual and eccentric people.

Liberty London was founded in 1875 by Arthur Lasenby Liberty.  Arthur travelled the world looking for unique and eclectic products to excite his discerning clientele.  He started off small selling ornaments, fabrics and interesting objects from Japan and the East.  As his business grew he bought more properties to expand his empire which resulted in the construction of the iconic Tudor building in 1924.  The black wooden timbers came from two ships – HMS impregnable and Hindustan.  It’s such a lovely store which is almost like shopping in a grand house, especially when you walk up the stair case which creaks beneath your feet.

If you’re after Christmas gift ideas for men, then you should definitely start your tour at the Lower Ground which houses men’s fashion collections, accessories and shoes; Christopher Kane, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons plus many more.  A couple of things I spotted which might be of interest are the Sandqvist Bag – £134 and the Brooks Leather Bicycle Saddle Bag – £60.  Murdock London has a barbers and men’s grooming salon in the basement so you could always buy a gift certificate if you can’t find a suitable Christmas present.
