Shops: spotlight on Cassina Homegirl London June 14, 2013 Shops Based on Brompton Road, Cassina is the heavenly haven to design. It’s their only showrrom in the UK so is the destination for lovers of exceptional design. If you’re not familiar with Cassina, it was established back in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, Milan. In the 50s the brothers were famed for launching industrial design in Italy which saw them move from hand craftsmanship to the more intense furniture production methods for the time. Their business is all about innovation and authentic designs and as such they collaborate with the crème de la crème of 20th and 21st century designers including; Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Mario Bellini, Philippe Starck and Piero Lissoni. Cassina comprises of two Cassina furniture collections ‘l Maestri’ (masters), among this collection Cassina holds the worldwide production rights for the iconic Le Corbusier (range of furniture designs by Le Corbusier), Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. It is also, the only authorised manufacturer of authentic designs by Gerrit Rietveld, Charlotte Perriand, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Franco Albini and Erik Gunner Asplund. The ‘l Contemporanei’ (Contemporary) collection includes designs by Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, Gio Ponti, Vico Magistetti, Luc Nichetto and Rodolph Dordoni among many others. Alongside furniture sits the Cassina Nemo lighting range. The designs from both collections are still manufactured in Italy, being made in Meda, Milan. They hold exclusivity on many designs and work very closely with Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand Foundations and Cassina holds the exclusive rights to create their designs authentically. With over 100 iconic and contemporary designs beautifully curated, the Cassina showroom is a destination store. You’ll find classic and iconic designs and more contemporary designs sitting comfortably side-by-side and industrial materials blended with softer colours and lighting.
