With the festive season on the horizon, it’s time to look at Christmas Dinner Setting ideas. Rather than going for obvious Christmas emblazoned tableware or centrepieces be savvy and spend your money on items you can use throughout the year. I’ve picked out some beautiful fine bone china plates, exquisite expensive cutlery, designer candle holders, useful serveware dishes and luxury linen napkins to share with you. I’m also showing you two inspirational Christmas dinner setting ideas to give you some food for thought.

Two Christmas Dinner Setting Ideas
Luxe Table Setting Idea: If you want to go upmarket this year with a luxe dinner table setting then you’ll love these fabulous pieces from the Houseology website. Keep your colour palette strong and striking with bold gold against beautiful black and flashes of winter wonderland white for a decadent dinner setting.
Luxe Table Setting Idea
Layering your plates is a great way to create a stunning table setting. Start with a large plate or charger first and then the smaller plates so that your first course starter plate is on the top. Three plates in total is the optimum number. Keep the colours coordinated but mix the shapes for interest. Place your cutlery on top and make sure it’s clean and shiny with no dishwasher water marks.
Bottom: Wedgwood Arris Octagonal Charger in black and white fine bone china £95 | Middle: Wedgwood Arris Dinner Plate with delicate white and gold decorative pattern on fine bone china – £30 | Top: Wedgwood Arris Accent Tea Plates in fine bone china with a metallic shine – £130 four plate set | Cutlery: Lene Bjerre Cutlery in antique brass finish – £9 each per knife, fork and spoon
Bottom: Wedgwood Arris Octagonal Charger in black and white fine bone china – £95 | Middle: Wedgwood Arris Dinner Plate with delicate white and gold decorative pattern on fine bone china – £30 | Top: Wedgwood Arris Octagonal Side Plate with octagonal shaped and gold geometrical pattern on white fine bone china – £45 | Cutlery: Bloomingville Brushed Black Cutlery Set – £39 set of four
Decorate the centre of your table with white, black, brass and gold coloured candle holders or tea lights. A mixture of shapes and sizes is more interesting although don’t go too high rise otherwise you’ll obscure your guests (unless you want to that is!). I love this selection which includes plenty of creations from designer Tom Dixon plus LSA and Eichholtz.
Tom Dixon Cell Tea Light Holder in brass mesh design – £35 | Tom Dixon Etch Tea Light Holder in brass with wood grain patter – £50 | Tom Dixon Stem Candle Stick Holder in gold colour – £80 | Tom Dixon Stone Candle Holder in white marble – £50 for the short version | Tom Dixon Cog Candle Holder with an industrial edge – £120 for the tall version | LSA Malika Grand Tea Light Holder in gold colour – £21 | Eichholtz Okhto Black Candle Holders in black glass – £104 for two small
Scandi Cool Table Setting Idea: Alternatively you could go for a simple and urban Scandi cool Christmas table instead. No need for a table cloth for this look or any matching tableware. Just keep your colour palate monochrome with a few touches of gold or silver.
Scandi Cool Table Setting Idea
Get the Scandi look with pared-back tableware from the Houseology website. Choose bold black or stark white plates. Geometric patterns are also great and mid-century modern designs can be introduced for a touch of nostalgia. The Danish brand, Bloomingville, has a superb selection of tableware which is a great investment for any serious lover of Scandinavian style.

For table linen keep it simple and neutral or with a pattern which isn’t obviously for Christmas then you can use it all year round. Vintage style designs are also perfect because they add a romantic touch to your table setting. A great place to buy linen napkins and table cloths is The Linen Works. You can purchase washed linen napkins in classic white, dove grey, duck egg, Parisian blue, cassis rose of charcoal – £7.50 from The Linen Works at Not on the High Street. Christmas Dinner Setting Serveware Ideas
Now you’ve got your tableware looking fabulous you don’t want to ruin it by bringing any old dishes to the table to serve your food from. Invest in some classic serve ware pieces which you can use throughout the year. I love the Porto Stoneware collection from The White Company which has been handmade in Portugal from clay and features a painted trim in a light grey colour. It is robust, scratch-resistant, dishwasher safe and microwave proof. The collection includes heart-shaped oven dishes and serving plates, casserole pots, jugs, a cake stand and more.
