Ten Reasons To Visit Chiswick High Road List
1. Start with brunch at My Place Chiswick or the High Road Brasserie. For a low-key meal, head to My Place Chiswick, 83–85 Chiswick High Road. Stop here for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, plus coffee, juices, and cocktails. I had a very tasty omelette there on my visit. If you are feeling a bit fancier, you’ll enjoy the High Road Brasserie, 162–170 Chiswick High Road. Set inside the former Foubert’s Hotel, you can enjoy Art Deco touches, a vintage-style bar, and a pavement terrace. Drop in for brunch anytime, day or night.
2. Visit one of Chiswick High Road’s Sunday markets at Old Market Place. The Chiswick Flower Market arrives on the first Sunday of the month, the Chiswick Antique and Vintage Market on the second, the Chiswick Cheese Market on the third, and The Food Market on the fourth. Each brings a different collection of independent traders to the High Road.
3. Browse antiques and vintage finds at The Old Cinema, 160 Chiswick High Road. Set inside a former picture house, this vast three-floor emporium is crammed with antique furniture, vintage lighting, mirrors, artwork, jewellery and collectables. Allow plenty of time because every corner seems to reveal something different.
4. Shop for interiors along Chiswick High Road. Explore timeless timber kitchens and classic furnishings at Neptune, test out ultra-comfy, handmade-to-order sofas at Loaf, or browse sustainably sourced contemporary pieces at Adventures in Furniture. For unique styling, Decorexi specialises in statement mirrors and eclectic lighting, while long-standing local design studios Insider Dealings and Interiors of Chiswick provide expert consultancy for custom upholstery, fabrics, and full-scale renovations.
5. Bid for lots at Chiswick Auctions, Barley Mow Passage. For premium fine art, jewellery, and specialist design items, you can participate in sales held by Chiswick Auctions, situated just off the main road.
6. Browse rare books at Foster Books, 183 Chiswick High Road. Step inside this traditional independent bookshop to discover secondhand, rare and collectable books covering literature, art, history and plenty more. The tightly packed shelves and old-fashioned shopfront give it plenty of character, making browsing part of the pleasure.
7. Explore the independents on Devonshire Road. Turn off Chiswick High Road to find Tamp Coffee, Urban Pantry, Mother’s Bakehouse, The Whistling Oyster and La Trompette, along with Wild Swans boutique. It’s a brilliant little street for coffee, food, fashion and dining, and I have a separate Devonshire Road guide with more of my favourite stops.
8. Wander around Turnham Green Terrace. Look out for Chief Coffee with its arcade games, two amazing bakeries: Frankie’s Bakery and Debbie Jo, deli Hack & Veldt, various independent boutiques, quality food shops and a small garden centre.
9. Share a Tuscan meal at Villa di Geggiano, 66-68 Chiswick High Road. Set back from the road with a charming courtyard, this adorable restaurant is the place for a cosy dinner. With perfect pasta dishes and a collection of truffle options, you can savour every mouthful of this memorable meal.
10. Catch a film at The Chiswick Cinema, 94–96 Chiswick High Road. Finish your explorations at this smart neighbourhood cinema, with five screens, plus a café bar, lounge, and terrace. It shows current releases, family films and special screenings, making it a comfortable way to round off an afternoon or evening in Chiswick.
