albanian extra virgin olive oil launch

Albanian Extra Virgin Olive Oil From Little Olive Oil

UK food lovers note that a new extra virgin olive oil brand will launch soon. Little Olive Oil, founded by award-winning garden designer and landscaper Herman Pobrati, introduces Albanian olives’ rich and robust flavours to UK kitchens. I must disclose that Herman is a good friend of mine, so I’ve been lucky enough to have the first interview. Also, I’ve been trying Little Olive Oil for a few months and am now besotted. I can tell you that this is not just another olive oil brand; it’s a labour of love, heritage, and sustainability designed for those who appreciate quality and provenance in every drop.

A Heritage-Driven Extra Virgin Olive Oil Brand

Herman Pobrati’s connection to the land runs deep. As the founder of the award-winning garden design and build company Acacia Gardens, he has spent years creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Still, his passion for working with the earth started long before that – back in Albania, where his family has been cultivating olives for five generations. Herman would play in the olive groves and fondly remembered his grandfather’s words, “Every olive has a story,” which stuck with him. Launching an extra virgin olive oil from his home country has been on Herman’s mind for a long time, and he couldn’t be happier that his passion has now become a reality.

Herman shares, “Albania is often overlooked in the world of olive oil, overshadowed by Italy, Spain, and Greece. Yet, its Mediterranean microclimate and fertile soil provide the perfect conditions for cultivating olives with exceptional character. With Little Olive Oil, my mission is to challenge perceptions and introduce British food lovers to the outstanding quality of Albanian extra virgin olive oil. Having grown up in Albania but lived in the UK for many years, I understand what British consumers appreciate, and I know they’ll love it. My kids enjoy meals cooked with it, which makes it family friendly. With Albania emerging as a must-visit travel destination, it’s the right time to introduce Little Olive Oil.”

The Lovely Little Olive Oil Collection

The launch range of Little Olive Oil features carefully curated extra virgin olive oils sourced from small-scale, family-run groves in Albania. These oils are hand-harvested, free from pesticides, and packed with rich flavour. Herman and his family selected these olive oils from their connections.

The collection includes:

Kalinjot Pure (£25 / 500ml): Made from rare Kalinjot olives, this extra virgin olive oil is beautifully balanced. It has a robust, peppery profile and a high polyphenol content. It is ideal for drizzling over salads or enhancing fresh bread. It is my favourite!

Koroneiki Superior (£22.50 / 500ml): A bold, robust extra virgin olive oil with a peppery kick. It is perfect for dishes with strong flavours.

Trio Select (£20 / 500ml): A smooth, silky blend of Koroneiki, Frantoio, and Leccino olives. It is ideal for everyday cooking and subtle flavouring.

The packaging is also cute (I advised, so I’m biased!), and Herman bottles it in 100% recycled aluminium and glass to see which one consumers prefer. I adore the aluminium packaging because it looks so cool on my kitchen shelf.

I’ve enjoyed testing the collection over the last few months. I’ve used it to roast veggies, drizzle over pasta dishes, and make salad dressings. Let me tell you, it’s fantastic. As a vegetarian, I use a lot of extra virgin olive oil, so I can’t wait to sign up for the subscription service.

Where To Buy Little Olive Oil

Little Olive Oil is available through its Kickstarter campaign (live until 1 April 2025), allowing backers to try it first. I’ve made my pledge already. After the campaign closes, Little Olive Oil will launch a dedicated Shopify website that sells directly to consumers.  I hope you’ll love Little Olive Oil as much as I do.
