Vanilla Black Brunch Menu

On our first visit, we ordered the Veg House, a vibrant plate stacked with avocado, talagani cheese, poached eggs, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and sourdough, served with harissa beans and a punchy tomato relish. It was full of flavour and satisfying without feeling too heavy. There’s also a version with bacon for meat-eaters. These come in around £15–16. If you’re after something lighter, try Poached Eggs on Sourdough and customise with extras like avocado or Maldon-cured smoked salmon.

On another occasion, we had the Veggie Brunch Bowl, a fresh, colourful and full of texture. It came generously filled with quinoa, avocado, beetroot hummus, grilled talagani, poached egg and greens. There’s also a protein variation with turmeric hummus and smoked salmon. Both cost between £14 and £15.

If eggs aren’t your thing, there’s Smashed Avocado on Sourdough Toast, finished with lime, coriander, chilli, sesame seeds and fresh herbs. Optional toppings include feta-style cheese, grilled talagani or chorizo. Another savoury option is the Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Toast, served with avocado and fermented radish. You’ll also find classic Toasted Sourdough with spreads, and toasties filled with cheese or bacon and jalapeño jam. The Burrata dish, paired with heritage tomatoes and red pepper hummus, is another standout.

The sweet menu is just as appealing. We shared the Toasted Banana Bread, served warm with Greek yoghurt, ricotta, Biscoff crumbs and a drizzle of agave syrup. Soft, lightly spiced and indulgent without being overly sweet. Other options include the Peanut Butter and Jam Porridge made with almond milk and seasonal jam, and the House Granola with fruit, coconut chips and seeds.

Don’t miss the counter, where you’ll find a collection of delicious-looking pastries and croissants. Think cinnamon buns, almond croissants, peach and pistachio danishes and pain au chocolat, all very tempting.

The coffee, by Assembly, is consistently excellent. I had a latte both times, while my partner opted for a flat white. There’s also a good selection of teas, hot chocolate, fresh juices and smoothies, with ingredients like turmeric, spirulina, peanut butter and coconut milk.
