Button and Sprung Beds and Mattresses
This business is all about simplifying the bed and mattress buying process for the consumer. The company was launched in May 2014 by Adam Black (ex founder and MD of Feather & Black) and Matthew Hardcastle (formerly of eBay and Sofa.com). Adam and Matthew believed that many of the existing bed retailers made the purchase journey overly complicated and expensive. Their vision was to have a market leading website and one London based showroom for customers to view the products. Because the beds and mattresses are direct from the factory to the consumer and commissions to sales staff are not required, there are no expensive overheads which get passed onto the consumer. Their prices are always extremely competitive so they don’t need to entice customers with sales or promotions. They’ve done all the hard work making the best mattresses, creating the perfect bed bases and designing lovely headboards. All you have to do is pick out your favourite bed style, decide on the upholstery fabric and settle on a mattress.
Start off by choosing your bed size; single, double, king or super king which are all UK standard sizes. Next you select the base which can be a bedstead which rests on feet. There are two types of feet available, the Traditional Turned style or Sharks Tooth. Both styles are made from wood and come in Beech, Oak, Walnut or Ebony. If you don’t want to hoover under the bed opt for a divan style base instead. If you require storage, go for a two drawer divan. If you are buying a king size bed, this also comes as an ottoman where the entire mattress area lifts up to reveal masses of storage space underneath. This is well worth considering if you want somewhere to store your bedding and extra clothing.

Then you have a choice of fifteen different bed headboards which you can combine with any of the bases I’ve mentioned. If you want a simple shaped headboard go for the Burdock with clean lines. Classical lovers might prefer the Regency inspired Camelia or the Foxtail. Retro fans will love Campion which is reminiscent of the sixties with button detailing. Urban dwellers hankering after that loft living look might prefer the Iris. The newest additions are Holly which is very striking, the mid-century modern inspired Daisy and Willow which has a plush pillow style headboard. I thought the headboard selection was spot on, there is certainly something to suit different tastes without making it too confusing.
The fun part is choosing your bed frame and headboard upholstery fabric. There are eighty in-house fabrics comprising of good quality linen, brushed cotton, soft wool, plush velvet, crushed velvet and more. These are in some beautiful colours, my favourites were Blossom in the Velvet Feel, Flint in the Fine Corduroy, Heather in the Broad Weave and Denim Moleskin. You also have the option to select from prominent fabric houses like Linwood, Designers Guild, Romo, J Brown, Andrew Martin and many more.
Bed Upholstery Fabrics
That’s the bed sorted, now for the all-important mattress. Button and Sprung specialise in pocket sprung mattresses only (no memory foam) because they believe these are the best. There are nine different options with different comfort levels which range from 1,800 springs right up to 15,800 springs. These aren’t standard springs either, they are patented IQ spring which delivers support just where you need it the most. This means that if two people of different sizes sleep in the same bed, they both have equal progressive support. Then you get a layer of mini pocket springs which only their manufacturer has the technology to create. The mattress fillings are all natural which include wool, hemp, cotton and flax which are grown in the UK. This attention to detail means you get the best night’s sleep … ever!

For extra peace of mind, you get a one hundred night’s sleep return policy which is very generous. If you have an unusual sized bed, they can make you a bespoke mattress. Sometimes antique frames or four poster beds might require something out of the ordinary, in which case, they can help you. Your bed and the mattress are guaranteed for ten years which is great.
