Recently, I stumbled upon the Moco Museum at Marble Arch, and from that very moment, I was captivated. As someone passionate about modern and contemporary art, I couldn’t resist its magnetic appeal. A week later, I found myself walking through the London flagship gallery, which was awe-inspiring. The king of pop art, Andy Warhol, Young British Artists (YBAs of 1990) Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin (although not that young anymore!), street art legends Banksy and KAWS and digital innovators like Anthony James are all exhibited at the Moco London. If you’re searching for the best contemporary art museums in London or want exciting things to do near Marble Arch, this should be at the top of your list.
Moco Museum London Highlights
The Moco Museum is a must-visit for art enthusiasts, offering a breathtaking collection of works by legendary modern artists like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Banksy. It doesn’t stop there; the museum also features innovative digital displays, inspiring sculptures, and iconic canvas masterpieces to satisfy all your senses. Spanning three floors, the museum invites you on an immersive journey where every corner offers something extraordinary. There’s plenty to see and lots to like. Here are some of my favourites:
Lunar Garden by Daniel Arsham: An immersive installation where Japanese rock garden tradition meets surreal artistry, exploring the balance between the fleeting and the eternal.
Blue Calcite Eroded Porsche by Daniel Arsham: A full-scale Porsche sculpture carefully made to appear eroded, with shimmering blue calcite crystals bursting through.
Solar Black by Anthony James: This mesmerising light sculpture combines glass, steel, and LEDs to create an endless illusion of space.
Extinction Annihilation by Jake Chapman: This tapestry confronts capitalism’s role in global warming and extinction, urging reflection on humanity’s impact and the future we leave behind. Look at the scary faces of the child sculptures standing in front of the tapestry.
Dolphin Taz Trashcan by Jeff Koons: Crafted from galvanised steel and polychromed aluminium, this sculpture blends pop art and conceptualism, transforming everyday objects into a playful exploration of consumption and wonder.
