Chase and Sorensen Scandinavian furniture shop

Shop snoop around Chase and Sorensen. Homeboy and I wandered around Hackney in East London last Sunday when we stumbled across this exciting interior shop.  This is a beautiful store with a fabulous selection of mid-20th-century design classics sourced from Denmark and Sweden.  You’ll find plenty of modern Scandinavian furniture, Scandinavian home accessories (ceramics, tableware, glassware, decorative objects), plus retro lighting.  Alongside these desirable pieces are a carefully considered collection of new designer items from the likes of Royal Cophenhagen, Frama and more. I had a good snoop around Chase and Sorensen and took some pictures to share with you.

My Favourite Five Pieces at Chase and Sorensen

To give you an idea of what you’ll find in the store I picked out five pieces I loved.  Let’s start with this Beech Framed Lounge Chair upholstered in blue wool.  This is from Denmark and was made in 1970.  It’s ideal as a lounger in your home office or a relaxed living room – £420.

The 1960s Teak Storage Bar Cabinet is beautiful and slim yet provides you with ample space for all your clutter.  It has three drawers and a drop-down door, which reveals a compartment for drinks.  You can place this in your dining room or living room, but you don’t have to use it to serve alcohol; it would also work well in the hallway – £535.

Shed some light on your paperwork with this original Anglepoise Desk Lamp from Denmark, which is in full working order.  It’s just perfect for your retro home office or placed on your nightstand for a spot of bedtime reading – £95.

If you want to treat yourself to a small keepsake, the selection of Marselis Plates is very cool.  Designed by Nils Thorsson for Alumina Royal Cophenhagen in 1952, they are something you can cherish – £28 each.

This pair of ceramic cups with saucers is by Jens Quistgaard. They were produced by Kronjyden in Denmark in the 1960s – £40 for both.

Chase and Sorensen Shop and Stock

The shop is located off the main thoroughfare but is well worth a visit if you find yourself in Hackney, East London.  Inside, the space is quite serene and relaxed, with a nice spacing of the objects.  The stock comes from Denmark and Sweden, focusing on original Scandinavian design vintage furniture from the 1940s-70s.  They regularly source items so you can pop back every month to find new pieces to admire.

You’ll find an array of seating; sofas, daybeds, lounge chairs and armchairs.  These have the original upholstery intact and offer upholstery service if you require this. Other furniture items include cabinets, chests of drawers, coffee tables and dining tables, mostly in teak.  Plus plenty of teak mirrors and an assortment of ceramic objects, tableware and glassware.  A stunning selection of pendant lighting is suspended from the ceiling, and a few desk lamps are dotted around.
