Tucked into the corner of Bermondsey Square, Henri’s is a hidden gem in SE1. By day, it’s a bright, welcoming café with a counter full of fresh salads and homemade cakes artfully arranged on stands. By night, it transforms into a candlelit wine bar serving cheese and charcuterie platters beneath the warm glow of a chandelier. Whether you’re searching for lunch near Bermondsey Street, a dog-friendly café, or a wine bar in Southwark, Henri’s is quietly beckoning.
“Whether you’re popping in for a salad and slice of cake or meeting friends for a glass of wine and a cheese board, Henri’s is a place that does both brilliantly without missing a beat,” Homegirl London.
Henri’s Bermondsey Square Lunch Menu
Living nearby, we’ve popped into Henri’s for lunch a few times and have always enjoyed the experience. The lunch menu runs until 5 pm and includes a rotating selection of salads, a sandwich of the day, and light bites like a ham and cheese croissant or a salmon bagel. These cost £5.50-7.
The salad selection is spot on, with five flavour-packed combinations. You can keep it simple or add something extra. My favourite is pairing a couple of salads with their house-made falafel.
My partner is a fan of the baked salmon, which is succulent and well-seasoned. Alternatively, you may prefer to add a piece of roast chicken with dates and olives. It’s the perfect food for lunch, which feels fresh and nourishing without being too heavy, and is ideal for a midday break when working from home. Salads are £3 per scoop while the protein (falafel, salmon or chicken) costs £5-8.
The sweet counter is hard to resist, offering everything from buttery croissants and almond pastries to generous slices of homemade cake. On recent visits, we’ve spotted glossy lemon drizzle, rich carrot and walnut cake, berry-topped sponge, banana loaf, orange and polenta cake and a Victoria sponge.
Don’t miss their signature canelés; these are adorable French pastries with a caramelised crust and soft, custardy centre.
After 5 pm, Henri’s transitions into a relaxed evening spot. The menu includes moreish nibbles like truffle nuts and olives, plus sharing platters of cheese from French Compté and charcuterie from France and Italy. Choose a full mix platter or opt for smaller half portions while you sip your glass of wine or cute cocktail.
