Wow, this beautiful place is filled with dreamy designer sofas, including a spectacular selection of fabric and leather sofas. These are all waiting for you to road test, which is apt because this used to be a Porsche garage in a previous life. If you’d prefer to check your couch for comfort before committing, then you must visit this showroom because it’s the London flagship store for Darlings of Chelsea. The sizeable space is 5500 square feet which is just as well because they have a lot of sofas to display. The fabric and leather settees range from contemporary to classic designs. The sofa collection includes corner, recliner chaise, modular U shapes and angled corner designs. You can buy a hand-constructed British-made sofa by Darlings of Chelsea or one of the designer brands they stock, such as Duresta or Content by Terance Conran.

Whether you’re after a contemporary or traditional leather sofa, you can find a wide selection here. My favourite is Oslo by Andreas Engesvik, which is slim and sleek, perfect for minimalists with a stylish apartment. Another chic sofa is the new Rocco which has sleek square frame legs and Italian leather upholstery, which is so tactile that you won’t be able to stop stroking it. If you prefer something more classic, then you’ll love the Chesterfields, some of which have had a modern twist.

I love the Hale Chair, which would look pretty cool in my apartment. This features a mid-century modern solid oak angled frame. The upholstery is in antique ebony top grain leather upholstery with decorative channel stitching. The wing-backed Wellington was also rather beautiful with its high back and sexy curves.

If you want a great family sofa, try the Norton, which is squish and cosy. It can be large enough so that everyone can pile on, even the dog! Another family-friendly sofa is the Kingston Large U-Shaped Corner which features luxurious feather-filled back cushions so you sink right in. I Caught up with John Darling at the Darlings of Chelsea Parsons Green Showroom
I managed to have a chat with the super busy John Darling (yes, that’s his real name!). John launched his sofa website back in 2004 after having to wait six months for a sofa he’d bought which arrived damaged (don’t you hate that!). His first shop was on Fulham High Street, and his empire has grown to include premises in Birmingham, St Albans, Ash Vale in Surrey and now Parsons Green. I asked John a few questions…

Q: What makes Darling of Chelsea different from other shops selling sofas?
A: I think we sell a slightly higher quality product for not much more money. Also, we have such a wide range to suit many different styles and budgets. We cover Ultra-modern Penthouse with Scandi designs like the new Oslo by the famous designer Andreas Engesvik through to traditional Chesterfields. Budget wise also, we have £800 sofas like the Brighton up to £8000 for the U-shaped corner sofas. Many retailers focus on one price range, but we cover it all.

Also, the person who serves you in-store is your account manager right through to delivery into your home because we found that customers appreciate the continuity. Our shops have coffee lounges, an area for the kids and parking, so customers feel relaxed in one of our showrooms

A: Quality, style and comfort.

A: It’s a secret, but I can reveal that it’s upholstered in velvet!

Evelyn Sofa
I checked out the new sofas and my favourites include the Brighton Sofa, inspired by the sixties American design. Kingston is a soft, deep and relaxing settee with deep feather-filled cushions. Evelyn is a comfy traditional couch with a smooth flowing back. The Denver Sofa Bed is lovely, and you wouldn’t even realise that it folded out to become a bed because it’s beautiful. The Piccadilly Sofa Bed is also stunning and well worth considering if you need a guest bed but don’t have a spare room. They’ve also started making compact furniture for smaller spaces which are handy for modern compact living.

New Parsons Green Sofa Showroom Exterior
The address is Darlings of Chelsea, Parsons Green Depot, 33 Parsons Green Lane, London SW6 4HH. It’s a few minutes’ walk from Parsons Green Station which is on the District Line. There is also room for free car parking outside should you wish to drive. Current opening times are Monday to Thursday, 9 am until 6 pm, Friday from 9 am until 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm, and Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm, but check online before you visit. Don’t forget to order a coffee or cocktail at the bar while you are there!
