Head over to the Friends of Ours café come coffee shop if you love that sweet spot between breakfast and lunch. Their USP is dishing up Melbourne inspired brunch at their Pitfield Street premises in London N1. Homeboy and I discovered this cute neighbourhood café when we walked to Newington Green last week. We put it on our list of London brunch spots to try and had a lovely time. If you’re looking for the best brunch in Hoxton or a place to eat breakfast in N1, you’ll be super happy discovering Friends of Ours.
“Brunch lovers will enjoy tucking into interesting dishes to fill the void between breakfast and lunch, and the coffee is also excellent; happy days! It’s a friendly place to hang out, eat and catch up with friends,” Homegirl London.
Friends of Ours Brunch Menu
Homeboy and I went big on our choices by ordering three dishes to try from the thoughtful brunch menu. Homeboy chooses the Turkish Spicy Beans without any hesitation. The two magic words – spicy and beans combined were too much for him to resist! The plate was brimming with chilli spiced beans, rose harissa aubergines, zucchini and preserved lemon gremolata (sauce made from parsley, lemon, garlic). He added a well-done poached egg and enjoyed every mouthful.
Meanwhile, I was delighted with my Mushrooms on Toast. The sage and wild garlic mushrooms sat on top of Jerusalem artichoke cream, which was a nice touch. I did appreciate the artichoke crisps and the Dusty Knuckle sourdough toast. I also added a well-done poached egg and had the whole lot polished off in a couple of minutes.
We were quite full but couldn’t resist the Brioche Baked French Toast. The topping was delicious thanks to the poached quince, blackberry and hibiscus compote, cardamon shortbread and clotted cream. The only downside was that we were sharing the French Toast!
Also on the menu is Salmon Kedgeree with Brussel sprouts, Japanese Benedict with soy and sake braised pork belly and fermented cabbage, Eggs on Toast, Bacon Focaccia and Date Porridge. Brunch dishes range from £6-14.50. Sides include Fried Halloumi, Smoked Streaky Bacon, Hash Browns with Manchego and Fermented Chilli Sauce and more. Check out the fresh-baked cakes and sweet treats made by the pastry chef. Coffee is by Dark Arts, Tea by Good and Proper Tea, Cold-Pressed Juices, Wine and Cocktails are also available.
