I was invited for date night dinner at Bennie, a relaxed yet stylish restaurant tucked away on Great Portland Street, just a short walk from Oxford Circus. The space is instantly charming, with playful orange accents and a cosy layout that makes it ideal for date nights or catch-ups over a modern European and Mediterranean menu. Whether you fancy a fabulous fish dish, a succulent steak or vegetarian options, Bennie has it all. If you’re searching for restaurants on Great Portland Street or dinner in Fitzrovia, London, W1, Bennie is the place to be.
“Those seeking a modern dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street can relax at Bennie,” Homegirl London.
Bennie A La Carte Menu
I started with the Broccolini Tempura, accompanied by a delightful satay dip, which was a great start to my Saturday night dinner. My other vegetarian options were Aubergine Tempura, a Pea and Mint Soup or Burrata Pugliese.
Meanwhile, my partner chose the Crispy Calamari, which came with a zesty lime aioli. He was pleased with his choice after considering the Salmon Tartare and Lobster Soup. The starter menu also includes Pulled Pork on Flatbread and Jamon with Brie. Prices range from £8.50 to £20.
As a vegetarian, I was pleased to find a few appealing main dishes, such as the Roasted Cauliflower and Green Pasta with Burrata. On recommendation, I opted for the Wild Mushroom and Truffle Risotto, which was earthy and rich, featuring black truffle paste and baby spinach.
My partner selected the Pan-Seared Scallops in white wine sauce, served with asparagus and seasonal mushrooms. Other seafood options included the Pan-Fried Salmon and the standout Grilled Australian Octopus.
For meat lovers, there are dishes such as the eight-hour Braised Beef Short Rib, 24-hour Marinated Grilled Lamb Rack, and Filet Mignon. Mains cost between £16 and £30.
To end the meal, we shared the Basque Cheesecake, which is something I tend to order when I spot it on a menu. Dessert choices include Honey Cake, Chocolate Brownie with vegan ice cream, and Italian Gelato, with prices ranging from £6 to £9.
Bennie’s drinks list is impressively broad, ranging from playful house cocktails and elegant classics to thoughtful non-alcoholic options. We went for mocktails with dinner, trying the Sunrise, a bright, fruity blend of orange, cranberry, and strawberry syrup and the Apple and Elderflower Fizz, which was crisp and refreshing with just the right zing from lime and soda. A great choice if you’re skipping the alcohol but still want something special.
