While exploring the area, I popped into the Don’t Tell Dad Bakery in Queen’s Park for a cheeky Danish and coffee. This local spot bakes the best pastries and bread in the neighbourhood, with sandwiches available during the week and pizza on weekends. It’s takeaway, but there are benches outside so you can savour your tres leches Danish or brown butter hazelnut croissant while overlooking the adorable mews street. If you’re looking for croissants in Queen’s Park or places for coffee on Lonsdale Road, Don’t Tell Dad is waiting. Later, they switch to serving as a restaurant for lunch and dinner so that you can return for more fabulous food.
“This is the kind of place where you can pick up a croissant or Danish in the morning, then return later for proper food and drinks in a relaxed, welcoming setting.”
Don’t Tell Dad Bakery Menu
Just inside the door, you’re greeted by the glass counter showcasing all the tempting, freshly baked treats. Everything looks fantastic, but as a queue was forming, I had to make a quick decision. I chose the plum and fig leaf Danish, which combined tart fruit with a subtle herbal sweetness, all nestled inside beautifully buttery and wonderfully flaky pastry. I enjoyed every bite and am now obsessed with this bakery. I’m already checking my diary for a time to return and try something else, or maybe I should move to Queen’s Park!
Other sweet options include a brown butter hazelnut croissant, a fig and tres leches Danish, cinnamon swirls, babka buns, and decadent vegan chocolate chip or gluten-free chocolate buckwheat cookies. There will also be staples like pain au chocolat and plain croissants.
For those craving something savoury, the Swiss chard with feta and preserved lemon puff or the corn, miso, and Coolea bear claw stand out. There’s also freshly baked bread, including white sourdough, seeded loaf, wholemeal and spelt sourdough or a black wheat baguette. Sandwiches are made daily from Monday to Thursday, while pizza is added on Fridays to Sundays.
