Dragon Castle Chinese Restaurant Elephant and Castle London

I love Dragon Castle Chinese Restaurant in Elephant and Castle London SE17. They specialise in Cantonese Cuisine and serve Dim Sum daily between 12 noon and 5 pm. If you’re not a fan of Dim Sum, don’t worry because you can select all your Cantonese favourites from the Main Menu. Book a table at Dragon Castle if you’re looking for the best Dim Sum in South East London, Chinese restaurants in SE17 or places for lunch in Elephant and Castle.

I’ll start with the Dim Sum, which is an extensive list. The Steamed Dim Sum includes some exciting options. Choose from Meatballs, Tripe with Ginger and Spring Onion or Chicken or Feet in Black Bean. My partner wasn’t so adventurous; he opted for the Prawn with Chives and Prawn with Bamboo Shoots. He said both were exceptional. It’s no wonder because they are super fresh and hand-crafted in-house by skilled chefs.

If you prefer Fried Dim Sum, you may like the Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Deep Fried Cuttlefish Cake with Coriander, Pan Fried Pork Dumplings or Pan-Fried Veg Dumplings. My partner tried the Deep-Fried Calamari, which he devoured rather quickly. Another option is Cheung Fun, with a choice of fillings.

I’m happy to report that the Main Menu did have plenty of veggie and vegan dishes, so you’ll enjoy going to this restaurant with your meat-eating friends. There were a few Vegetarian Dim Sum items and a Vegan Dim Sum Basket, but I was in the mood for noodles and was pleased with my Braised Yee Mein Noodles with Enoki Mushroom, Mange Tout and Carrot. It was tasty and satisfied my craving.

Although my Noodles were filling, I was glad I made room for the Tempura Aubergines from the Appetizer section. I loved every mouthful and have been thinking about the dish ever since! Thanks to the Chilli and Spring Onion garnish, the battered aubergines looked appealing.

The Main Menu is divided into sections covering Appetisers, Soups, Cantonese Roast Dishes, Bean Curd, Clay Pot, Seafood, Sizzling, Chicken Pork, Beef, Lamb, Vegetables, Noodles, Rice, Sichuan and Traditional. I suggest you study the Menu online before your visit because it may take you half an hour to decide!

I’ll mention some of the dishes to give you an idea of what to expect. Dragon Castle Signature Duck is the house special. Meat eaters may like the Braised Ribs in Mandarin Sauce, Honey Roasted BBQ Pork, Clay Pot Braised Beef Brisket with Mooli or Stir-Fried Lamb in Szechuan Sauce. Fish and Seafood options include Golden Fried Soft-Shell Crab, Stir Fried Mussels in Black Bean Sauce, and Sizzling Scallops with Ginger and Spring Onion. Vegans and Vegetarians can order Bitter Melon with Black Bean Sauce, Stir Fried Shanghai Pak Choy and Vegetarian Singapore Vermicelli. If you can’t decide, choose one of the set menus instead!
