Breakfast at The Wolseley City in London EC4 is a sophisticated affair. It promises a professional service amidst opulent surroundings, offering a quality culinary experience. Their extensive breakfast menu features timeless classics from the full English to specialities like a trio of salmon with sourdough and fabulous French toast. This makes The Wolseley an ideal choice for anyone seeking the finest breakfast spots in the City of London, a Square Mile venue for morning client meetings, or restaurants near Monument or Bank Stations. Having failed to visit The Wolseley before Christmas, we made a concerted effort to ensure we secured a table in the New Year, and I’m pleased we did!
“Enjoy a breakfast where excellence is the norm, and every guest is made to feel special at The Wolseley City,” Homegirl London.
The Wolseley City Breakfast Menu
The Grand European Café’s focus ensures that Wolseley City’s breakfast menu includes a delightful range of options. Start with something small and sweet like pain au chocolat or banana bread with vanilla butter and fruit compote. For those preferring lighter fare, there’s a variety of cereals and fruits, including caramelised pink grapefruit or lemon yoghurt with granola and fruit compote.
The hot breakfasts are particularly enticing. The full English breakfast is hearty with eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, tomato, black pudding and mushrooms. They also have Benedict or Royale eggs. I had no hesitation in selecting the Florentine version, featuring perfectly wilted dark green spinach, fluffy muffins, and creamy hollandaise sauce. Having tried to make this during the pandemic, I appreciate the difficulty of getting this dish right! Meanwhile, my partner savoured The Wolseley’s special fishcakes with poached eggs and hollandaise.
Their stand-out dishes include fried duck egg with bubble and squeak and wild mushrooms, grilled kipper with mustard butter, kedgeree with poached egg, and fried haggis with duck eggs and whiskey sauce.
If you’re smart, you’ll save a little room to share sweet options like pancakes or French toast with berries, bacon and maple syrup. We concluded with their excellent pancakes, the perfect finish to a memorable breakfast.
The drink selection features an avocado smoothie with apple, banana, ginger and turmeric or mixed berries with banana and coconut milk. They also offer a green juice blend of kale, spinach, celery, cucumber and ginger. We complemented our meal with coffee.
