Goddards at Greenwich is a celebrated destination for Pie and Mash lovers. Established in 1890, it’s renowned for traditional British food, a favourite among locals, market workers, tradespeople and tourists. If you’re looking for the best places for Pie and Mash in London, lunch in Greenwich, or reasonably priced restaurants near The Cutty Sark, Goddards at Greenwich is a must.
“Get your comfort food fix with Pie, Mash and Liquor plus Jellied or Stewed Eels followed by an old-fashioned pud at the famous Goddards at Greenwich,” Homegirl London.
Goddards At Greenwich Menu
Their main dish is the classic Minced Beef Pie and Mash, also available in double or triple portions, with Beans or Mushy Peas. For Eel enthusiasts, they offer both Hot and Jellied Eels.
Apart from their famous Minced Beef Pies, the menu features other Pie fillings including Lamb with Rosemary, Chicken and Mushroom, Steak and Kidney, Steak and Ale and Beef with Veg. I chose the vegetarian Cheese and Onion Pie over the Soya option, served with Mash and Vegan Onion Gravy rather than the Liquor (Parsley Sauce). The plating of the food might not be picture-perfect, but the meal itself was very satisfying. These Pies with Mash options are priced £5.40 – £6.10 (single servings).
For dessert lovers, their old-school puds are tempting. Options include Apple or Cherry Fruit Pies, Rhubarb, Apple, or Apple with Blackcurrant Crumbles, Bread and Butter Pudding, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate Sponge. I tied the Rhubarb Crumble, which was good, although very sweet which gave me a sugar rush. These are served with either Ice Cream or thick yellow Custard, ranging from £3.60 to £4.50.
Their drink selection covers Tea (a mug with the bag left in), Latte, Hot Chocolate, Fizzy Drinks and Bottled Beer, Lager or Cider.
