Healthy Breakfast At The Açai Girls Spitalfields London E1

I popped into The Açai Girls on Brushfield Street in Spitalfields E1 for breakfast on two mornings, which probably says quite a lot about its appeal. This pastel-toned, health-focused café serves coffee, smoothies, acai bowls, porridge or granola, and savoury toppings on toast.  If you’re searching for a healthy breakfast in Spitalfields, smoothies near Liverpool Street, or casual cafés in London E1, The Açai Girls is a place worth knowing about.

The açai bowls are the main draw here, with options including Load Me Up with strawberries, banana, peanut butter and homemade granola, Three Way Berry with berries and granola, Nutty For You with banana, peanut butter, coconut chips and chia seeds and Monkey Business with Nutella, banana and cacao hazelnut granola. I tried the delicious Naked Berry option, featuring a frozen Fairtrade açai base topped with strawberries and blueberries. Most full-sized bowls are £10.95, while the smaller Baby Berry is £6.50. You can also build your own bowl and add extras such as chia seeds, honey, cacao nibs, nut butters, berries, granola, toasted coconut chips, goji berries and frozen mango.

Alternatively, you can try their porridge and granola bowls. The Glow Pink Porridge uses oat milk infused with beetroot powder and is served with strawberries, frozen raspberries and bee pollen. The granola bowls are yoghurt-based, with options including the Berry Granola Bowl with chia jam, fresh berries, honey and bee pollen, or the Cacao Granola Bowl with cacao and hazelnut granola, peanut butter, banana and chia seeds. Prices for the porridge and granola dishes range from £8.95 to £9.95.

On my second visit, I tried the Spicy Toast, which is toasted sourdough topped with smashed avocado, crumbled feta, fresh chilli and chilli flakes. It came as a single piece of toast in a takeaway carton, so don’t expect a big plated brunch moment. That said, it was tasty and looked quite pretty. The all-day breakfast menu also includes Naked Toast with smashed avocado, Slutty Toast with avocado, pesto, and crunchy chickpeas, shakshuka with baked eggs, feta, and sumac, plus a Full Monty with egg, avocado, bacon, halloumi, and mushrooms. Toast dishes range from £7.95 to £10.50, and the shakshuka is £14.50. This isn’t chef-led breakfast cooking in the traditional sense. The food is assembled to order by staff, so it has more of a healthy-food-counter feel than a restaurant kitchen.

Drinks are a big part of the appeal. Alongside coffee, tea, chai, hot chocolate and matcha, the smoothie list is fun and very on-brand. I tried the Summer Fling, made with mango, pineapple, banana, fresh mint, lime and oat milk. It had a sunny, tropical flavour without being too sweet, with the mint and lime keeping it fresh. Smoothies start at £8.50, with options such as The Green One, Kiss My Açai, Coco Loco and Morning Glory if you want something more filling.
