My visit to the iconic Regency Cafe in Westminster, London SW1, was a delightful experience. Established in 1946, this cafe holds the crown for a quintessentially British Full English Breakfast, hearty Lunches and comforting Dinners. It’s a bustling hotspot for a diverse crowd, including police officers, politicians, neighbourhood residents and local workers. For those searching for an authentic Traditional Breakfast in London or a reasonably priced place to dine in Westminster, look no further than the Regency Cafe.
“In a city where traditional cafes are dwindling, the Regency stands out as a rare find, offering a homey atmosphere and generous portions at modest prices,” Homegirl London.
The Regency Cafe Menu
Patrons are encouraged to either go with the well-curated Breakfast suggestions or craft their morning meal from an array of choices like Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Black Pudding, Beans, Tinned or Fried Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Bubble and Squeak, Hash Browns, or Chips. These ingredients can also be used to fill a Sandwich or Roll.
On my visit, I opted for two well-done Fried Eggs, Chips and Beans accompanied by two slices of Buttered White Bread and a mug of Tea. I assembled a satisfying Chip Butty, which was delicious.
For Lunch, the cafe boasts a rotation of daily specials, including Braised Steak on Mondays, Shepherd’s Pie on Tuesdays, Curry on Wednesdays, succulent Roast Pork on Thursdays, and the classic Fish and Chips to round off the week on Fridays. Evening diners can indulge in Scampi, Minute Steak, or Gammon, all with Chips alongside Burgers, Pasta, or Pies. Those seeking lighter fare might opt for a Salad or Jacket Potato. And for Dessert, if you can manage, there’s Fruit Pie with either Custard or Ice Cream.
Beverage options encompass the basics like Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Milk, and an assortment of Soft Drinks.

Helpful Information About The Regency Cafe
To learn more visit the Regency Cafe website. The cafe is located at 17-19 Regency Street, hence the name, which is in Westminster, London SW1P 4BY. It operates Monday through Friday from 7 am to 2.30 pm, from 4 pm until 7.15 pm, and on Saturdays from 7 am to 12 pm.
The cafe’s exterior is notable for its distinctive black tiling and red-and-white checkered bistro-style curtains. Stepping inside, guests are transported to a different era, with the cafe’s art deco design and original wall tiles. The decor with photos of Tottenham Hotspur football players and boxing adds to the nostalgic vibe. The Regency Cafe has also served as a backdrop for various television and film productions.
Upon arrival, guests are expected to order before seating. After paying, collect your food at the counter which is likely to be ready in no time. Dress your food with sauces and condiments to your liking, then sit at one of the plastic chairs and enjoy your meal on the classic Formica tables. The service is efficient and the lady at the counter is on top form relaying the orders, making your tea and putting the buttered bread on a plate. She is amazing! One thing I noticed is that no one is working on their laptop or phone, people are talking and enjoying each others company which is a lovely thing to witness. More cafes should be like this.
