Indian Dinner At Pahli Hill Restaurant Fitzrovia London W1

On a Saturday evening, my partner and I joined friends at Pahli Hill Restaurant before heading to a party on Old Compton Street. Recommended by one of our group, it promised the best of regional Indian cuisine, and it didn’t disappoint. Set in the heart of Fitzrovia, Pahli Hill draws inspiration from the home kitchens of Mumbai, offering a refined yet relaxed take on dishes passed down through generations. If you’re looking for an Indian restaurant in Fitzrovia or the best places for dinner in London W1, Pahli Hill is well worth checking out. They have a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand 2025 award, indicating that they offer excellent quality food at a reasonable price.

We ordered à la carte, but you should also check the tasting menu, which is £99 per person plus an additional £59 for wine pairings. My partner and I began with the papadi chaat, a playful, crunchy mix of yoghurt, chutneys, and pomegranate over crisp wafers. It was light, tangy, and a perfect way to awaken the palate.

Other vegetarian small plates include the yhara kebab, a spinach and ginger patty served with tamarind chutney, and the crispy khakhra with mustard and bird’s eye chilli pickle. For those looking for something heartier, options like the Andhra calamari with Guntur chilli or the Coorg pork shoulder with black pepper and curry leaves offer bold, punchy flavours. Small plates cost £6-18.

We chose the paneer makhani for our main course, a comforting, creamy dish made with plum tomatoes and coconut cream. The butter chicken, cooked with similar ingredients to the paneer, was a popular choice on our table. Other main dishes on the menu include Goan prawn curry with green mango and tamarind, Cornish lamb biryani, and wild seabass steamed in banana leaf. Big plates cost £20-32.

Pair your main with tandoori roti, flaky flatbread, butter or garlic naan, peshwari naan, a chef’s bread basket, or fragrant saffron rice, and you’ll be content.

We tried the chargrilled broccoli from the tandoor and grill section, served with red pepper chutney and toasted almonds. It was charred beautifully and full of flavour. Other options from this part of the menu include tandoori monkfish, Pahli Hill chicken tikka, and lamb rump with moong salad. Expect to pay £18-30 for these dishes.

To finish, we shared a mango cheesecake made with alphonso mango and my partner’s all-time favourite, pear sorbet. I would have liked a larger slice of the cheesecake because it was so good, but I had to share! The dessert menu also features traditional Indian sweets like gulab jamun and carrot halwa. Puds cost £6-12, while ice creams and sorbets are £5.

Treat yourself to one of the cute cocktails like the golden cane old-fashioned or mango lassi with vodka. My partner enjoyed his pomegranate mocktail, which was a gorgeous, vibrant colour.
