We met friends for dinner at Harry’s in King’s Cross, London N1C, the night before they caught the Eurostar. It’s a buzzy Italian restaurant serving pasta, pizza, risotto, and classic crowd-pleasers, ideal for dinner and drinks. If you’re looking for restaurants in King’s Cross or Italian restaurants in N1C, Harry’s is a strong contender close to the station.
“Harry’s offers Italian food favourites in their upscale, luxurious restaurant in the heart of Kings Cross,” Homegirl London.
Harry’s À La Carte Menu
We started with a bread basket of rosemary focaccia, crispbread and grissini. We were told extra virgin olive oil would come with it, but it never arrived, and we were too deep in conversation to chase it up.
We also shared the zucchini fritti. They were crisp, light, and very moreish, stringy fried courgette slivers served with a yoghurt dip flavoured with herbs and chilli. Alternatively, you might like to try their truffle arancini, calamari fritti, burrata, or flatbreads. Starters range from £6.95 to £15.95.
For mains, both couples ordered the mezze maniche allo zafferano. It’s a saffron pasta with courgette flowers and Pecorino. It was creamy, rich and well-balanced, with a subtle floral note. My only criticism is that it was a tad cold, though still tasty.
My partner and I also divided the aubergine parmigiana. It arrived as a neat stack rather than the usual square, which made it feel more special. I always enjoy the layers of tomatoes, aubergines and gooey cheese. It’s a comforting dish that, when done well, leaves you feeling content.
Meanwhile, our friends had the pollo milanese. It was thin, crisp and generously portioned, served with rocket, datterini tomatoes and a pesto dip. Mains range from £18.95 to £39.95.
By the time dessert arrived, I was completely stuffed. I just love tiramisu, but I’ve found it keeps me awake because of the espresso, so I’ve started forgoing it. My partner couldn’t resist ordering the profiteroles. They were indulgent without being overly heavy.
For our friend’s birthday, they brought out a single profiterole with a happy-birthday message written in chocolate, which was a nice touch. That was after he’d devoured the Amalfi lemon cheesecake! Their special dessert is the Harry’s toadstool, combining white chocolate, raspberries, mascarpone mousse, vanilla parfait and crushed pistachio biscotti, topped with warm pistachio sauce. Desserts cost £9.95-19.95.
Our friends shared a bottle of wine while we stuck to non-alcoholic drinks. There’s a strong aperitivo selection with bellinis, spritzes and negronis, alongside a good wine list, so you’ll be very happy!
Helpful information about Harry’s King’s Cross
We thought the restaurant was dog-friendly, but alas, it wasn’t. However, we were allowed to sit outside on the terrace with our Jack Tzu. It was a tad chilly, but there was a heater, so it was totally fine, but it does make you feel like you’re having a hot flush! We sat in a booth that felt cosy and relaxed. Inside, it has a glamorous vibe with low lighting, perfect for a romantic dinner or a few cocktails.
