La Goccia is an Italian Restaurant in Covent Garden by Petersham Nurseries. We walked to Covent Garden on Sunday and noticed that La Goccia had outside seating available. It was great timing because we managed to get a seat before many other people arrived. The restaurant serves small plates of Italian food known as Cicchetti. It’s a great idea because you get to taste a selection of dishes with seasonal flavours. If you are looking for the best Italian restaurants in Covent Garden or places to dine outside in WC2, you’ll love La Goccia.
“La Goccia is a romantic restaurant where you can share small plates of seasonal food with your partner. The idyllic courtyard in the heart of Covent Garden is the icing on the cake,” Homegirl London
La Goccia Italian Menu
As I mentioned, the menu is all about small plates, and you should aim to choose two or three per person. The focus is on seasonal ingredients with the meat, eggs and vegetables coming from the family farm, so it’s very much from plot to plate.
Focaccia Bread
The Aperitivo section included Marinated Olives, Toasted Sicilian Almonds, Beef Tartar and Prosciutto with Melon. We settled on the Raw Broad Beans with Pecorino Toscano (cheese) and the Burrata with Roasted Datterino Tomatoes. Wow, the Burrata was excellent, thanks to the small but juicy and sweet-tasting tomatoes. It’s a simple dish but full of flavour. I enjoyed spreading the creamy Burrata over my Focaccia Bread. Oh, the simple pleasures of life!
Ravioli with Ricotta, Lemon, Butter and Marjoram
We didn’t choose anything from the Coccoli section (small dough balls fried in olive oil). Stuffing choices are Gorgonzola Dolce, Mortadello Bologna and Taleggio Cream. We didn’t choose anything from the Fritto (small morsels coated with batter and deep-fried) selection either. The fried bits include Chicken, Sage and Anchovies and Baby Squid.
Fresh Spaghetti with Mushrooms
We did, however, select a couple of vegetarian dishes from the Primi options. The Fresh Spaghetti with Mushrooms was fantastic, and we enjoyed every mouthful. I can say the same for the Ravioli with Ricotta, Lemon, Butter and Marjoram. Both dishes were excellent, and we wished these were big plates, not small! If you prefer meat or fish, you may like the Wood Fired Chicken, Beef Sirloin Tagliata or Cornish Mackerel. Add a plate of greenery such as the Petersham Garden Salad, and you’ll be happy.
Cherry Tart and Poached Peaches
We saved room for Dolci, that’s dessert. We shared the Cherry Tart with Cherry Ripple Ice Cream and the Poached Peaches with Lemon Verbena and White Peach Sorbet. Both were delightful and the perfect ending to a memorable meal. Other sweet treats include Chocolate Mousse with Blackcurrant Sorbet, Tiramisu, Gelato, Sorbets and more.
