I was very excited to be invited to The Langham London Hotel to experience The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood China. You’ll undoubtedly be in good hands because this hotel has been serving afternoon tea for 150 years since 1865. If you’re searching for afternoon tea menus, best afternoon tea or elegant high tea, The Langham London Hotel is the place for you.
Palm Court Entrance
This glamorous occasion takes place in the Palm Court Langham London, which is stylish and opulent. It’s the perfect London hotel to enjoy a decadent and delicious super cute afternoon tea with a loved one. Homeboy and I were there along with a mix of couples, mothers with their daughters, groups of female friends and business people who all seemed to be enjoying their treat. The dress code isn’t dictated, I’d say go smart, but you don’t need a tie or suit jacket.
Langham London Hotel Wedgwood Afternoon Tea Menu
The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood centres on serving speciality teas using the tailor-made Langham Rose Wedgwood bone china teaware set. How fabulous darling! What a perfect partnership this is; with The Langham’s afternoon tea traditions and Wedgwood being renowned for their luxury crafted ceramics, especially teaware, which has graced the tables of royalty.
Full Afternoon Tea Spread
Speciality teas are sourced from around the world selected by Alex Probyn, the Master of Tea. On the menu, you will find a wide selection of teas including blends from Langham and Wedgwood along with additional white teas, green teas, infusions and decaffeinated if you’d prefer. The knowledgeable staff can talk you through the best blends to suit your tastes. Here are a few of the Langham and Wedgwood blends;
- The Langham Blend: A sophisticated blend of second flush Indian Assam for a malty flavour along with first flush Indian Darjeeling which has a delicate muscatel charm and Uva season high grown Sri Lankan for light, citrus character. We tried this tea to start with because it suited the addition of milk
- The Langham Silk Road Blend: Finest Chinese silver needle white tea dried with aromatic jasmine flowers and combined with delicate pink whole Iranian rosebuds for a delicate and fragrant blend. We also tried this variant when we started on the scones because it helped to refresh the palette after the savoury sandwiches – well, that’s what we were told, and it was true!
- The Langham Palm Court Exotic Blend: Chinese white tea, hibiscus flowers, rosehip and pink rose petals provide a light, zesty and aromatic twist on the classic character of white tea
- Wedgwood Orange Pekoe: A brisk, smooth and light blend with bright liquor
The Langham Blend Tea
The afternoon tea menu has been created by Cherish Finden, the Executive Pastry Chef. You are presented with a mini red pepper Brulee with pine nuts first which is full of flavour. Next are the neatly cut finger sandwiches on white bread and some on a rather lovely beetroot bread or mini white bread rolls. I’m a veggie and Homeboy eats fish, so they tailored our plates accordingly. The usual spread includes:
- London cured smoked salmon with whipped brie and rocket
- Corn-fed chicken with tarragon mustard and plum tomato
- Smoked mountain ham with Comte cheese and white truffle oil
- Burford brown free-range egg and mustard cress
- Cucumber with cream cheese and chives
Vegetarian Sandwich Selection
Next is the warm scones fresh from the Palm Court bakery with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry preserve. You get two each (one plain / one sultana), but they are happy to bring you more if you so wish (I had two more, I couldn’t resist, they were so lovely). Then it’s time for those dainty and delightful pastries which are all inspired by the Wedgwood collections. I posted a picture on Instagram, and someone commented that they were “too cute to eat!” They were adorable, but it wasn’t long before I was cutting them in half and sharing these with Homeboy. The entire selection lasted a matter of minutes! The pastries include:
- Wedgwood teacup with white chocolate mousse, tropical jelly and dark chocolate sable
- White cameo on blue, strawberry and white balsamic victoria sponge
- Daisy teapot, cinnamon shortbread cookie
- Hathaway rose motif English rose lychee log
- Kouglof 64% chocolate, raspberry and lightly roasted fancier

You book a two-hour service slot which can start at 12 noon, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm, 4 pm with the last slot at 5.30 pm. The price is £47 for the afternoon tea. If you want a glass of NV Laurent Perrier Brut, the afternoon tea price is £57, with NV Laurent Perrier Rose it is £62, and with Laurent Perrier Grand Siècle it is £75. These prices are per person. Overall I thought it was a reasonable price for a special occasion treat because the service is impeccable, the surroundings are stunning, and the food was beautifully presented and utterly delicious.
Langham London Hotel Interiors
If you’re not familiar with The Langham London Hotel, it’s a luxurious hotel with a five-star rating. It’s an impressive building which is well situated in London’s west end. Being close to Regent’s Park, Oxford Circus, Regent Street and Bond Street, it’s certainly the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the city.
Palm Court Interior
Afternoon tea is served in the Palm Court which is at the heart of the hotel and situated directly in front of the main entrance. It is richly decorated with spectacular chandeliers and mirrors. There are plush and comfortable armchairs which surround individual tables. It isn’t a vast space, so it’s cosy and intimate. A pianist was playing his take on Frank Sinatra standards in the background, which was the icing on the cake.
