Mercato Mayfair, the food hall near Bond Street station, is easily one of the most unique food halls in London. Set inside a stunning Grade I-listed, deconsecrated church, it offers an array of delicious street food options and numerous bars. With a collection of possibilities ranging from Korean bao buns to Neapolitan pizzas and Japanese sushi sets, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Step through the foyer of St Mark’s Church, where you’ll be greeted by an array of greenery thanks to The Nunhead Gardener. Their lovely little shop sells plants, pots and gifts. Opposite is Matcha Metropolitano, specialising in matcha drinks and treats. Straight ahead, you’ll enter the breathtaking main hall, complete with soaring ceilings and stained-glass windows.

In the Main Hall, you’ll find some of the best food stalls in central London. Craving bao buns, dumplings or crispy Japanese fried chicken? Steamy & Co has you covered with comforting East Asian favourites, including ramen. For proper Neapolitan pizza, head to Napoletana; my Margherita was simple, fresh and perfectly done. If handmade pasta is more your thing, Dez Amore delivers spinach and ricotta ravioli in a butter and sage sauce, as well as other winning combinations.

If you have a sweet tooth, there are plenty of options available here as well. La Maritxu serves a superb Basque cheesecake, which is so creamy that you’ll savour every bite. Meanwhile, Bebek Turkish serves baklava by the piece or in boxes, and Badiani is your stop for Italian gelato, coffee, affogatos, and pastries.

Upstairs in the Gallery, there’s even more to discover. You might start with a classic combo of fish and chips or splash out on a lobster roll from MOLO. If steak and burgers are calling your name, head to Beast and Field. Rich Indian flavours come courtesy of Bindas, where the paneer curry, samosas and butter chicken bomb burger are all worth trying. Those who like Thai street food will appreciate noodles and curries at Pad Thai House. Club Mexicana delivers vegan tacos, nachos and jalapeño margaritas. And if you’re in the mood for a sit-down meal, Soleado offers a relaxed Spanish menu with small plates and a slower pace, perfect for lingering.

Head downstairs to the Crypt for a more intimate setting. It’s part wine bar, part cellar, and serves as a quieter spot to relax with a drink and something to eat. Sushi Tonari offers sushi with sake, and BeBeMe has a wine and cheese counter that’s perfect for slower evenings. There’s also a wine shop, and they sometimes have tastings or live music.

Helpful Information About Mercato Mayfair

Once you’ve chosen your food, you’ll receive a buzzer to help you find a seat while you wait. Most of the seating is in the Main Hall, where there are large shared tables and a few high tables. The Gallery has limited space but lovely views of the church interior. The Crypt downstairs has more secluded nooks and is usually quieter.

There are a few outdoor tables out front, but the best outdoor space is the rooftop terrace, which feels like a hidden oasis when the weather is good. The inside can get very warm, especially in the summer, so plan accordingly. I took my dog on one visit, and although Mercato Mayfair is technically dog-friendly, it was too hot for her, so we made a quick escape back to the pavement seats.
