I recently had the opportunity to savour the offerings at Orée Bakery, Borough High Street, London SE1. This spot is perfectly placed across from Borough Market and provides a charming French Boulangerie and Pâtisserie experience by founders Elizabeth and Laurent d’Orey. The selection includes freshly baked artisanal Morning Pastries, handcrafted Bread, exquisite Pâtisseries and an array of savoury-filled Baguettes for dine-in, takeout, or home delivery. If you’re looking for French Boulangerie or Pâtisseries in London, bakeries near Borough Market or cafes in London Bridge Station, you’ll adore Orée.
“Indulge in the charm of perfectly crafted Baguettes, delectable favourites such as Pain au Chocolat and luxurious Mille Feuilles, as well as the unique offerings of vivid green Pistachio Madeleines and the visually stunning Raspberry Croissants,” Homegirl London.
Orée Boulangerie Patisserie Menu
Kick off your morning with their delightful assortment of Morning Pastries featuring the timeless Buttery Croissant. Treat yourself to the irresistible Nutella Croissant, streaked with chocolate and brimming with a Nutella filling. My experience with its Raspberry counterpart was a treat for the tastebuds. Take advantage of the Almond Croissant, freshly baked and filled with homemade almond cream, then finished with a dusting of sugar and almond flakes. For a twist, try the Pistachio Croissant. And, of course, there’s the beloved Pain au Chocolat, a personal favourite. These are priced between £2.80 and £4.10.
Their Bun selection is just as enticing. The Cinnamon Bun is delightfully moist inside with a satisfying crunch on the outside. The Matcha Bun, flaky and infused with its mellow grassy taste, is something different. The Raisin Bun is a puff pastry creation dotted with sultanas and filled with creamy custard. The Chocolate and Hazelnut Babka is a soft, twisted brioche confection filled with chocolate and hazelnuts. These cost between £3.70 and £4.10.
For those who appreciate Baked Goods, they offer Madeleine sponge cakes with their distinctive shell-like shape. Choose from Plain, Lemon Icing, Chocolate, or Pistachio; we tried the latter, which was delicious. There’s also the Custard Flan with its crispy pastry and luscious creamy filling, the Tarte Tatin, a caramelised upside-down apple cake, and the Cannelé, a renowned bite-sized Bordeaux speciality baked in copper tins, all ranging from £2.30 to £3.90.
Come in the afternoon and indulge in their Fine Pastries. I shared a heavenly Mille Feuilles with my partner. We also divided a beautifully crafted Chocolate Éclair, its choux pastry packed with rich chocolate cream and a smooth chocolate glaze. I’m planning a return visit to try the Raspberry and Lemon Yuzu Tarts.
If savoury is more your style, explore their filled Baguettes. The Brie and Onion with Chutney was exceptional; order it hot for that perfectly gooey Brie. The Tomato and Mozzarella was also a hit. For vegans, there’s the Hummus with Avocado or other options like Chicken Avocado with Parmesan or in a Coronation style. They also serve a Ham with Cheese, Sausage with Cheese, and a selection of filled Bagels, including Turkey with Cheese and Salmon with Cream Cheese.
Don’t forget to take home a loaf. All of Orée’s Bread is kneaded and freshly baked daily. Choose from the French Baguette, Traditional Sourdough, Buckwheat Sourdough, Pumpkin Bread or the Brioche Sandwich Loaf.
