We had a lovely relaxing lunch at Palmyra’s Kitchen, Finsbury Park, last week. The new Middle Eastern restaurant specialises in freshly prepared Syrian and Lebanese food. We shared a few vegetarian and vegan mezze dishes, and everything was delicious, especially the Falafel. You’ll find Palmyra’s Kitchen at Wells Terrace near the newly completed City North development. It’s a great location, next to the transport hub, opposite the Picturehouse Cinema and a few minutes walk from Park Theatre. If you’re looking for Middle Eastern restaurants in N4, pre-theatre dinner in Finsbury Park or places to eat near the Picturehouse Cinema, you must check out Palmyra’s Kitchen. It’s an independent restaurant that’s welcoming and friendly.

Palmyra’s Kitchen Syrian and Lebanese Menu
The menu features Middle Eastern dishes from Syria and Lebanon. We shared a few vibrant vegetarian and vegan mezze dishes between two people. My favourite from the Hot Mezza section was the Falafel. I can’t get enough of the crispy chickpea loveliness, and these were noticeably nice. I considered myself a falafel connoisseur and was happy that Palmyra’s Kitchen Falafels didn’t disappoint.
My second favourite was the Sambousek Cheese deep-fried Syrian pastries. We chose these instead of Halloumi Cheese because we’d eaten Halloumi the previous day. Other savoury pastry options include mozzarella or spinach/onion fillings, and meat-eaters can try the lamb version.
From the Cold Mezza section, we chose the Beiruty Hommos, a creamy chickpea puree with hot pepper, parsley and tahini, and it was a nice change to standard Hommos. You may also like to try Moutabal Baba Ghanouji (aubergines with tahini). If you’re ordering Falafel, Hommos is a must. The meal comes with a basket of flatbread to scoop up the rest of your Hommos.
The Tabbouleh was super fresh. I’ve tried making it at home, but I can never chop the ingredients up finely enough. You’ll enjoy the parsley with tomatoes, fresh mint, onion, fresh lemon juice and a dash of extra virgin olive oil. Another option is to have the Tabbouleh Quinoa Salad if you want healthy grains.
We also ordered the Palmyra’s Salad which we didn’t notice contained similar ingredients to the Tabbouleh, but we still ate it all! Next time I’ll try the Fattoush, Feta Cheese or the Spicy Lebanese Salads.
We also enjoyed the Loubieh B’zeit, green beans cooked with tomato, onion, mixed peppers, garlic and olive oil. Similar dishes cooked in a tomato-style sauce include Bammeih B’ziet (okra) and Moussaka (aubergines).
If you eat fish, perhaps, you’ll want to order Charcoal Grilled King Prawns or Sea Bass. Charcoal Grilled Meats include Lamb and Chicken Skewers. Otherwise, you may prefer the Chicken Liver, Minced Lamb Stew, Braised Lamb Shank, Lamb or Chicken Shawarma. If you’re working nearby or on your way home from work, you might like to take away one of the Wraps filled with Lamb, Chicken or King Prawns.
Finish your meal with a plate of Baklawa, the traditional Lebanese pastries filled with nuts and sugar syrup. Other Desserts include Lebanese Milk Pudding, Rice Pudding and Ice Cream.
To give you an idea of prices, Cold Mezza is £4.99-8.99, and Hot Mezza is £5.75-7.9, Savoury Pastries are £5.75-5.99, Salads are £5.50-6.50, Chargrilled Meats are £12.99-13.99 and Wraps are £5.50-9.99. If you’re unsure what to order, check out the set menu options. Drinks include fresh juices, lemonade, and mint tea, plus many more.
I returned to Palmyra’s Kitchen on 8 August 2022 with my partner and a friend; we had another amazing meal; here are some of the photographs.
