If you’re searching for a memorable lunch in Vauxhall, Brunswick House is a place worth lingering over. Just moments from the Vauxhall tube, rail, and bus stations, it offers a world away from the traffic outside. I’ve been meaning to visit for years and finally made it while exploring the area for my blog. The experience was every bit as good as I’d hoped. Set within a grand Georgian mansion filled with antiques and character, the restaurant delivers not only on atmosphere but also on value for money food.
“I’ve had Brunswick House on my list for years, and the set lunch was even better than I expected – seasonal, beautifully cooked and excellent value. I’ll be back,” Homegirl London.
Brunswick House Set Lunch Menu
Brunswick House offers a well-priced set lunch from Wednesday to Friday, with two courses for £15 or three for £19. I opted for all three and chose the vegetarian options.
For starters, the Grezzina courgette with tomato and black olives was fabulous. It arrived delicately plated, light and summery, with a good crunch from the courgette and bursts of acidity from the tomato. The black olive added just the right amount of salinity to balance it all. The alternative on the day was mackerel with corn and lovage.
The second course was orecchiette pasta with broccoli rabe and pecorino. A simple combination done well. The orecchiette had bite, the bitter broccoli rabe brought depth, and the salty cheese rounded it all out into a dish that was comforting without being heavy. The other option here was fish soup with saffron and rouille, a richer, more robust alternative if you’re in the mood for something heartier.
Dessert brought a tough choice between a sorrel and green apple sorbet and a chocolate and peanut butter cookie. I went for the cookie, and honestly, it might be the best I’ve ever had. Still warm, crisp on the outside, gooey inside, not overly sweet, it was everything you want a cookie to be and more.
Alongside the set menu, there’s also a generous à la carte offering that ranges from snacks, such as devilled eggs and grilled potato bread, to larger dishes, including Tamworth pork chop with English cherries and mint, or dayboat cod with saffron broth. You can also share platters, such as a whole Suffolk chicken with cockles and moqueca broth. It’s a confident and inventive menu with something for all appetites.
Brunswick House has an extensive drinks list to suit every mood, whether you’re after something sparkling, a well-balanced cocktail, or a low-intervention wine. There’s also a strong selection of non-alcoholic drinks, including kombucha, zero-proof wine, and house sodas, making it easy to find something interesting, whatever your preference.
