Pop into the South London Louie after you browse a free art exhibition at the South London Gallery. This venue brought to you by the Louie Louie team, offers sustenance to South London Gallery goers, Camberwell College of Arts students and local creatives. By day they operate as a cosy Café with Coffee from Redemption Roasters, tempting Toasties and delectable Cakes. You can partake in Cocktails, Supper Clubs, Wine Tastings and Music Events during the evening. Come the weekend, they serve Brunch, including Eggs, Florentine, Avocado on Toast and Blueberry Pancakes. I’ve visited a couple of times during the day, so I’ll be telling you about the Weekday Menu. If you’re looking for Peckham Road Cafes, places to eat near the South London Gallery or Coffee in Camberwell, you’ll love the South London Louie.
“Coffee, Toasties and Cakes by day, Supper Clubs by night and Brunch at the weekend make the South London Louie the hang-out spot for South London Gallery visitors,” Homegirl London.
South London Louie Weekday Menu
Start the day with Toast, Butter and Raspberry Jam, Marmalade or Honey. For something sweeter, try the Toasted Banana Bread with Almond Butter. Healthy eaters may prefer the Greek Yoghurt with House Granola and Thyme Blueberry Compote or Hazelnut Cacao Butter with Banana Chips.
At lunchtime, you can fill up on Sourdough Toasties. I tried the Vegetarian Emmental with Gherkins, Sauerkraut and French Mustard, which was extra tangy and tasty. Vegans will enjoy the Artichoke Hearts with Seeded Pesto and Vegan Cheese. Otherwise, it’s Parma Ham with Brie and Chilli Fig Jam or Tuna with Cheddar, Parsley Mayo and House Pickled Chilies. If you’re not doing bread, look out for the Oyster Mushroom and Gruyere Swirl, which you can accompany with the daily Salad.
The Sweet Treats will tempt you. I couldn’t resist the Earl Grey, Lemon and Blueberry Cake. I was trying to be good that day but gave in as soon as I saw it; I had to have it! You’ll also have difficulty resisting the Chocolate Brioche, Blueberry and Vanilla Brioche, Vegan Cinnamon Swirl and the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie!
The Coffee is by Redemption Roasters (made by prisoners) with all your favourites, including Espresso, Macchiato, Latte and Flat White. Speciality Beverages feature Matcha Latte, Turmeric Latte and Babycino. Teas include English Breakfast Caffeine and Decaffeinated, Earl Grey, Green, Spicy Chai, Peppermint, Lemongrass Ginger and Chamomile. They also have Cocktails, a few Wines and Beers if you fancy something more potent.
To give you an idea of prices, the Toasted Banana Bread is £5.50, Yoghurt Pots £5, and the Toasties are £6.50-7.50. Espresso is £2.40, while a Latte is £3.60.
If you’re there at the weekend, you can sample the Brunch Menu featuring the Toasties I’ve mentioned previously. Egg dishes are Florentine, Benedict, Royale and a Bacon or Halloumi Roll with Fried Egg. Otherwise, it’s Avocado on Toast or Blueberry Pancakes.
