Southern Thai Lunch At Plaza Khao Gaeng Borough Yards

We had spotted Plaza Khao Gaeng in Borough Yards a couple of weeks earlier and kept it in mind for a return visit. We did just that one lunch time and had a delicious meal. Set beneath a railway arch on Stoney Street, this Southern Thai restaurant brings a lively, market-style feel to the area. If you’re looking for restaurants in Borough Yards, or fancy Thai food near London Bridge, Plaza Khao Gaeng is well worth adding to your list.

“Plaza Khao Gaeng is a vibrant Thai restaurant with bold flavours and a buzzing, market-style energy,” Homegirl London.

Plaza Khao Gaeng Menu

The Plaza Khao Gaeng menu features snacks such as crispy quail-egg wontons and fried chicken, as well as salads with fried sea bream and shaved lemongrass. Hearty curries include beef shoulder massaman and green chicken curry. Stir-fried dishes range from dry wok-fried pork to morning glory with shiitake mushrooms. There’s a strong Southern Thai influence throughout, with bold spices and fresh herbs.

To start, we had the Miang Phuket, a dish built around wrapping fillings in glossy leaves to create small, bite-sized parcels. Inside, coconut and cashew are balanced by a gentle sweetness from palm sugar, giving each mouthful a mix of crunch and softness. That was actually my favourite dish of the meal.

We also ordered the Yam Strawberry, a strawberry-based salad paired with green mango, coconut and crispy elements. It brought a bright, slightly tangy edge to our meal and was another highlight of our lunch.

Moving on to the curries, I chose the vegetable version of the green curry. I loved it, although it was very spicy, so make sure you ask them about heat levels.

My partner chose the Gung Pad Prik Gaeng Sator from the stir-fry section. It features prawns cooked in a rich red curry paste with coconut cream and sator beans, another dish with vibrant heat.

The fragrant jasmine rice was essential for bringing everything together, as was the buttery roti, perfect for scooping up the curries.

Another highlight on the menu was Plaza Samrub, a Southern Thai sharing-style feast featuring a selection of signature dishes served with rice, designed for groups of four or more, followed by the light and refreshing Maprao Ohn pudding.

My partner ordered the Cha Yen, a Thai iced tea made with sweetened tea and milk, which provided a welcome pause from the spice. Served cold and creamy, it worked as both a drink and a gentle reset. Or treat yourself to tropical cocktails and other soft options that reflect the same Southern Thai flavours.

Pricing sits towards the higher end for a casual lunch, with our bill coming in at around £80. Snacks are £6.50-£15, curries £16-£29, and stir-fries £12-£39.

Helpful Information About Plaza Khao Gaeng Borough Yards

Inside, the space is much larger than it first appears, stretching back beneath the railway arch, with additional seating tucked further in. It’s a relaxed setting that suits lunch or a casual dinner rather than a celebration restaurant. The team were friendly and helpful, taking time to talk through the menu and explain the dishes. They are also dog-friendly, which is good to know.
