I booked a table for Sunday lunch at The Italian Greyhound restaurant and bar in Marylebone, London W1. While I was looking into the best places to eat near Marble Arch a couple of weeks ago, this restaurant caught my eye, so I made a note to check it out. We were a party of four, and I have to say that everyone had a great time. The restaurant is light and airy, with enough food choices to suit our different preferences. If you’re looking for Sunday lunch in Marylebone or the restaurants near Marble Arch, The Italian Greyhound is the perfect choice.
“A relaxed spot that gets the balance between crowd-pleasing dishes and elevated dining, I could have stayed there all day,” Homegirl London.
The Italian Greyhound Sunday Lunch Menu
We shared a few vegetarian dishes so everyone could join in. A basket of homemade bread and focaccia, along with pane carasau (Sardinian flatbread), was served with extra virgin olive oil and a little balsamic vinegar for dipping.
The taleggio, spinach and Calabrian chilli arancini were amazing, crispy on the outside and full of flavour inside. Thankfully, there were four of them, so there was no squabbling. We did check the quantity in advance!
We also ordered two plates of burrata with pickled beets, radish, broad beans and courgette pesto. This was the prettiest dish of our meal, colourful, fresh and creamy with a perfect contrast of textures.
There was also a plate of assorted tomatoes bursting with flavour. I’m not sure where they came from, as I didn’t spot them on the menu, maybe someone just asked, and it appeared.
If they had a vegetarian version of the Sunday roast, I would have probably selected it. Instead, it was meat-focused like grilled half chicken with sage and lemon, porchetta with apple and rosemary, or the dry-aged sirloin paired with horseradish cream. So I decided to opt for the globe artichoke risotto with sage and artichoke crisps. It was beautifully presented and full of flavour, although slightly over-salted for my palate. Although I tend not to season anything at home, I’m probably more sensitive to it.
My partner went for the pizza with artichoke, Taleggio and rosemary. It looked rustic and smelled incredible. Other options included tomato with buffalo mozzarella and basil, and pork and fennel sausage with wild mushrooms.
For dessert, I couldn’t resist the dark chocolate mousse with olive oil and sea salt. It was rich, decadent and generously sized. My partner had the pistachio tiramisu and couldn’t get enough of it. The other two shared the apricot and vanilla cheesecake, which also got high praise.
The Italian Greyhound offers a well-rounded drinks menu, from sparkling Prosecco and crisp white wines to bold Italian reds and elegant Provence rosés. Cocktails are fresh and Mediterranean-leaning, including a great selection of inventive Negronis and seasonal spritzes. I had a couple of gin and tonics, which I enjoyed!
