Nine Lives is a cute neighbourhood bar just off beautiful Bermondsey Street. Nestled in the Victorian basement of No. 8 Holyrood Street, Nine Lives is renowned for its incredible cocktails, great vibes, and curated soundtrack. Initially, the El Tigre taco truck outside the bar used to serve Mexican tapas and tacos, but now they have an on-site kitchen. You’ll love the El Tigre tacos if you’re searching for tacos near London Bridge or places with outside dining near Bermondsey Street.
El Tigre Tacos and Mexican Menu
Start with some Gordal olives, corn ribs or agave-infused watermelon. We tucked into the fresh guacamole, ripe avocado mixed with pico de gallo and served with totopos. The latest menu also features delicious ceviche, especially the Mango Ceviche with kohlrabi and pico de gallo.
The highlight of the evening menu is the seasonal tacos. My partner loved his Camarones Taco, filled with king prawns, avocado cream, pineapple, habanero, and pickled onions. He also ordered the Baja Fish Taco, which featured the beer-battered catch of the day, pickled cabbage, pico de gallo, salsa roja and chipotle mayo.
Meanwhile, I opted for the vegetarian version of No Fish Baja, a beer-battered banana blossom with soy sauce, lime, pickled cabbage, pico de gallo, salsa roja, and chipotle mayo. It had a strange texture, but I enjoyed it. My favourite was the Calabacitas Taco with courgette, baby corn, avocado cream, salsa verde, feta and hibiscus flowers. It looked and tasted amazing.
Meat eaters may prefer the Beef Barbacoa Taco, which offers a slow-cooked beef joint with white onion, coriander, and beef consommé. The Chicken Tinga has shredded chicken breast, chipotle adobo pasilla salsa, iceberg lettuce and sour cream.
For a sweet ending, indulge in Churros de la Calle, churros coated in sugar and cinnamon and served with a chocolate dip. We have since tried these, and they are amazing.
At lunchtime, enjoy our burritos for £9, with options like Chicken Tinga, Beef Barbacoa, or Mushroom Mirasol. All are served with refried beans, crispy iceberg, pico de gallo, smashed avocado and chipotle mayo.
Alternatively, opt for a bowl for £11, featuring Grilled Chicken, Grilled Fish, or Portobello Mushrooms, fine green beans, ripe avocado, coriander rice, and salad with dressing.
Drinks include some refreshing soft drinks along with beers, ciders and plenty of cocktails. Happy days.
