My ten reasons to visit Francis Road, Leyton, London E10, give you the lowdown on this charming little street. We had been meaning to check it out for a while, especially since our little Jack Tzu dog is a Leyton girl. Expect a truly neighbourhood atmosphere, with plenty of cafés, light-lunch spots, and independent shops to browse. Plan your visit for a Saturday when the KERB street market is on, and the entire street comes alive. You can easily spend a few hours here, browsing records, picking up a bottle of wine, some fresh bread, maybe a bit of comté, and generally enjoying a more relaxed pace.
Let’s take a look at what made it onto my top ten list of the best things to do on Francis Road. This is in a logical rather than priority order:
1. Graze street food at the Saturday KERB market
2. Discover Yardarm for wine, coffee and deli treats
3. Shop at Marmelo General Store for seasonal produce
4. Grab a coffee and toastie at Tamping Grounds
5. Browse vinyl at Dreamhouse Records
6. Pop into Phlox Books for books, booze and coffee
7. Savour an Asian bite at CCP Home Kitchen
8. Tuck into a light lunch at Scottalia or Albert and Francis
9. Refresh your look at the Garden Room or Blue Tit
10. Browse George’s Den for plants and pet supplies
My Ten Favourite Reasons To Visit Francis Road In Leyton
1. Graze street food at the Saturday KERB market. You’ll find a handful of great traders serving up fresh dishes to enjoy at the alfresco tables. There’s also a selection of stalls with fruit, veg, comté, bread and cakes if you fancy picking up a few treats to take home.
2. Discover Yardarm for wine, coffee, and deli treats. It’s a fantastic independent wine shop with a carefully curated selection, a cosy bar area for drinks and snacks, and a charming courtyard garden at the back. It’s dog-friendly too, and we stopped by for coffee and pastries.
3. Shop at Marmelo General Store for seasonal produce. Expect organic veg, quality meat and cheese, house-made products, and natural wines, all carefully sourced from independent UK producers. There’s also Friday night dinners and a monthly supper club that make it worth planning a visit.
4. Grab a coffee and toastie at Tamping Grounds. Expect fantastic brews from Ireheart, top-quality sourdough and baked goods. We sat outside on the benches and shared a cheese toastie, which was genuinely delicious.
5. Browse vinyl at Dreamhouse Records. Discover a diverse selection of new and used records spanning indie, rock, jazz, hip hop, and electronic genres. With Perky Blenders coffee, outdoor seating, and a relaxed café bar atmosphere, you’ll probably linger for longer.
6. Pop into Phlox Books for books, booze and coffee. Browse a carefully curated selection of fiction, non-fiction, and children’s titles, then relax with an Allpress coffee, craft beer, or natural wine. With expert staff, regular events, and a laid-back café bookshop atmosphere, it is the ideal place to find your next great read.
7. Savour an Asian bite at CCP Home Kitchen. Expect fluffy milk buns, savoury pastries, and changing home-style dishes, all served in a relaxed café setting that is perfect for something a bit different.
8. Tuck into a light lunch at Scottalia or Albert and Francis. Both serve coffee and simple snacks like paninis and toasties, with outdoor seating so you can sit back and watch the street buzz.
9. Refresh your look at the Garden Room or Blue Tit. Both salons provide expert hairdressing, including cuts, colour, and styling. Relax in their design-led environments while enjoying sustainable, high-quality haircare.
10. Browse George’s Den for plants and pet supplies. Bright bedding plants out front attract passersby. Inside you will find cut flowers, potted plants, compost, pots and practical pet essentials, making it a handy stop for both garden bits and everyday pet needs.
Helpful Information About Francis Road in Leyton
Francis Road is easily accessible, with Leyton Underground station just a short walk away, and Leyton Midland Road Overground also nearby. It is located in a well-connected part of East London, close to Stratford, Hackney Wick, and Walthamstow.
You’re also close to some lovely green spaces. Sidmouth Park is on route from Leyton Station to Francis Road, and there’s also Coronation Gardens nearby, which even has a maze. Hackney Marshes isn’t far either if you fancy a longer walk. It all adds to why Francis Road feels like a proper local gem rather than just another high street.
What really stands out is how family-oriented the immediate area feels. It seems to have attracted those priced out of Walthamstow looking for more house for their money. The middle-class vibe around Francis Road feels very different to the high street near Leyton station.
