Broadway Market is a street in Hackney famous for its Saturday Market of the same name. With an abundance of places to eat (restaurants, pubs, cafes and bakeries), boutiques, book shops, organic groceries and beauty stores, this little street has it all. My list of ten things to do in Broadway Market showcases why you should visit this charming East London street bordered by London Fields on one end and Regent’s Canal on the other.
My Ten Things To Do In Broadway Market
- Shop and eat at Broadway Market on Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm. The market stretches along the entire road from Regent’s Canal to London Fields. You can buy everything from retro clothing to jewellery, cute plant pots, beautiful flowers and plenty of food. Pick up your artisan cheese, freshly baked bread, organic veggies, and cakes.
2. Relax at London Fields. This popular park is a large grassy field with a lido, outdoor gym and a beautiful wildflower meadow. It’s the perfect place to hang out with friends and family while tucking into your food from the market.
3. Stroll along Regent’s Canal while you admire the colourful barges. At the bottom of Broadway Market, you’ll find steps leading to the canal.
4. Eat street food at the market, including a wide selection of cuisines. On my last visit, I shared a grilled portobello and halloumi burger, churros and grilled cheese with my partner, and all were delicious! When the market isn’t on, you can eat at one of the many restaurants or pubs on Broadway Market. Take your pick from Italian, Spanish, Argentinian, Mediterranean, Spanish and Japanese food. The Dove and the Cat and Mutton both serve pub grub. If you want a speciality coffee and croissant, head over to Climpson & Sons.
5. Cheer yourself up with a sweet treat from Pavilion Bakery. Whether it’s a Bakewell tart or a piece of lemon drizzle cake, you’ll be delighted.
6. Browse the boutiques for fashion finds from Retrouvé (eclectic vintage fashion) and 69b Boutique (sustainable fashion) and rummage through the rails at the market.
7. She’s Lost Control is a must for anyone looking for crystals, wellness products or gifts for the mind, body and home. Book your one-to-one session for astrology, akashic record or crystal, psychic and tarot card readings.
8. Pamper yourself with herbal beauty products and bath soaks, candles and teas from Wilder Botanics. You’ll also want to buy natural skincare, hair care, soaps and fragrances from the Australian brand Aesop.
9. Buy an interesting creative book (architecture, design, art, counterculture, fashion), zine or poster from Donlan, the independent bookstore.
10. Before you return home, pop into Planet Organic or one of the other health foods shops for quality groceries.
My Ten Things To Do In Broadway Market Information
Broadway Market (Saturday Market and the street) is in the London Borough of Hackney. For more information, please refer to the Wikipedia page. The nearest stations are Cambridge Heath and Haggerston (Overground). The best day to visit is on Saturday when the market is on. I recommend that you take your food to London Fields where you can sit down and eat it away from the market crowds. While you are in the area, you may like to read the following posts:
