While exploring King’s Cross, I popped into Alma on York Road, London N1, for brunch. This coffee shop sits slightly up York Road, away from the station’s rush, making it calmer and more relaxed. Alma serves coffee, a good brunch selection, and customised wellness bowls for lunch in a contemporary space with a neighbourhood feel. If you’re looking for the best brunch in King’s Cross or coffee near York Road N1, Alma is a lovely spot to try.
“Start your day the right way by pairing your morning coffee with pancakes, a burrito, or a full breakfast plate at Alma,” Homegirl London.
Alma Brunch Menu Kings Cross
It was Monday, the day before Shrove Tuesday, so it was a no-brainer to order the buttermilk pancakes with berry compote, coconut yoghurt, seasonal fruits and pistachios. They arrived looking beautifully fluffy and were gone in a flash. Their other option was date butter and maple syrup with streaky bacon. I could have chosen something a little healthier, such as their açaí bowl with granola and peanut butter, or their poached pear porridge with cinnamon yoghurt and toasted pumpkin seeds. But it was Monday, and rain was predicted, so I felt I deserved a little treat! Sweet brunch dishes range from £8.75 to £13.50.
If you prefer savoury dishes, there’s The Alma Full One, a breakfast plate laden with Cumberland sausages, mushrooms, grilled tomato, streaky bacon, hash browns, Boston beans, eggs, and sourdough (and a vegetarian version). If you’re not that hungry, you can opt for something smaller, such as a breakfast burrito, shakshuka toast with baked eggs, or smashed avocado with whipped feta. Savoury brunch plates range from £10.50 to £12.75. If you’re there around lunchtime, you might want to choose one of the wellness bowls with a choice of grains, protein, and leaves.
I enjoyed my latte with the pancakes. In addition to regular coffee options, they offer speciality drinks, from red velvet lattes to golden milk. With a long list of juice combinations and smoothies with added boosters like collagen, it’s a great place to visit when you need a little lift.
