I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite independent eateries and coffee houses with you and today it’s Tapped and Packed. I often stop at one of their places if I’m looking around Tottenham Court Road or Soho. They have 3 outlets dotted around the W1 area, all of which are named after the Shop number; No.114 Tottenham Court Road, No.26 Rathbone Place and No.193 Wardour Street.
The Tapped and Packed Premises
I popped in to all 3 recently so that I could take some photographs. At No.114 Tottenham Court Road I enjoyed a semi skimmed latte and fresh fruit with natural yoghurt which cost me £5.40. At No.26 Rathbone Place I stopped off for a latte which cost me £2.50. I ate a Keen’s Cheddar and Chutney sandwich and drank a latte at No. 193 Wardour Street which cost me £6.10.
What I Ate and Drank
Tapped and Packed is all about the coffee which is ethically sourced and they change their blends regularly to keep things interesting. The coffee specialities include; Espresso, Ristretto, Macchiato, Americano, Piccolo Latte, Cappuccino, Flat White, Mocha, Affogato and Cafetiere. I picked up a leaflet which had 2 interesting coffee offerings; Cold Brew which is a punchy and invigorating extract, brewed with cold water over several hours for £3.50 and Jam Jar Iced Latte which is an espresso with cold milk, a splash of sugar syrup and ice which is shaken and served in a jam jar for £2.80. If you prefer tea then you’re in luck because they serve black and green teas plus herbal infusions.
You can enjoy your breakfast coffee with a selection of viennoiserie, muesli, fruit and porridge. At lunch time they serve seasonal sandwiches, soups, salads and cakes. I must say that the sandwich I ate at No.193 Wardour Street was very good, the bread was so soft and the cheddar and chutney really tasty – I was still thinking about it when I got home!
I like these places because of the buzz and the interiors are very cool – light industrial with a touch of New York loft – wooden floors and enamel lighting. During the week you’ll find young professionals having causal meetings over coffee and at the weekends it’s people out shopping.
The only downside is the toilets – none at the Tottenham Court Road or Rathbone Place branches but you can use the facilities at the pub next door at Rathbone Place. No Wi-Fi at Tottenham Court Road but at Rathbone Place. They do have Wi-Fi and toilets at the Wardour Street branch which was my favourite. So next time you’re in the vicinity do pop in for a coffee.
