I often pass by the Belle Epoque Patisserie in Newington Green on route to my beautician. It’s the perfect place to pop in for coffee and a croissant. Why not try a filled baguette or one of the savoury tarts for lunch? You’ll probably be tempted by their eclairs or other sweet treats in the afternoon. If you’re looking for a bakery or the best French patisserie in Newington Green, you’ll adore Belle Epoque.

Belle Epoque Menu
Start the day with a coffee and deluxe French butter Croissant. Or you may want to explore the Croissant aux Amandse with almond cream and almond flakes or a Pain au Chocolate made with two bars of chocolate. Try the Fruit Danish with raspberries, blueberries or mixed berries. The Breakfast Basket with toasted bread and butter with coffee will set you up for the day ahead.
For lunch, you may want to fill up on the Bagatini, a baguette with pesto sauce, mozzarella, basil, fresh tomatoes and sundried tomatoes, which is my favourite. Other options include Egg Mayo, Tuna Mayo and Ham with Emmental. Alternatively, you may prefer the French favourite Croque Monsieur.
Thanks to the fillings combined with the tasty pastry, the savoury quiches are excellent. Choose between the Quiche Loraine, Goat’s Cheese, Mushroom with Baby Spinach or Courgettes with Grand Padano Cheese. Add a Goat’s Cheese, Chicken or Detox Salad.
The sweet tarts will tempt you, and I don’t blame you because they are excellent. These are made with butter-rich shortbread pastry and filled with mixed berries, strawberries, apples, pears with raspberries, apricots plus pistachios and other fabulous ingredients. Custard, chocolate and cherry are others to try.
Eclairs, Cheese Cakes, Banoffee Cakes and more are waiting for you. The cute cakes will catch your eye and tempt you to try them. If you want to purchase a gift for a friend’s birthday, the celebration cakes include a Chocoframboise and Salted Caramel Cheesecake. The Macaroons in pretty colours are another gift idea.
You’ll probably notice the baskets displaying the freshly baked bread. Loaves include Rye Sourdough, Olive Bread, Raisin with Walnut, Pain de Campagne and Baguettes.
Belle Epoque Newington Green Information
To find out more, visit the Belle Epoque Website. There are now three bakery branches, with Newington Green being the original in 2000. The owners are Eric and Hulya, who set up in the 18th Century building in Newington Green. You will find a couple of tables outside the front of the bakery overlooking the green. The building has a quaint interior with seating in the front and rear. The goods were initially baked on the premises, but now they have a production site in Highbury Barn. The address is 37 Newington Green, London N16 9PR. Current opening times are Monday to Friday from 8 am until 5 pm, Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm, and Sunday from 9 am until 5 pm. Other locations are Upper Street in Islington, and they sell cakes in Selfridges.
