Homegirl London’s Food Review: Albion Clerkenwell. Homeboy and I booked a table here last Saturday where we sampled the all day menu. The original Albion is located in Shoreditch, this one is where the famous Turmills club used to be, where I’d spent many weekends in my youth! If you’re looking for Clerkenwell restaurants or places to eat in Farringdon you should check out the Albion Clerkenwell.
“Tuck into quality no nonsense seasonal British grub like pies, fish and chips or lighter salads as you relax in this sapcious café located in Clerkenwell,” Homegirl London
Albion Clerkenwell All Day Dining Menu
The approach to food is non-fussy and honest with a focus on seasonal British dishes. We sampled the all day menu which is perfect for the weekend when you’re not too sure what you’ll fancy. You can start with a few snacks and nibbles like scotch eggs or crispy whitebait with tartare sauce. If you’re in the mood for sharing try the vegetable, Neal’s Yard Dairy cheeses or British charcuterie boards. There is a good mix between brunch style dishes, lighter lunches and comfort food.
Bread and Butter
Homeboy opted for the classic fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed. The fish was perfectly cooked, the batter was golden and light and the minted peas were marvelous. Other classic options were a full English fry up, kedgeree, sausage and mash, Welsh rarebit, devilled kidneys on toast or gammon with fried duck egg and chips. Pie lovers will be happy with the fish, curried mutton or chicken with leek and hack hock varieties. With wild mussels, barbecued mackerel, steak sandwiches, pork belly with mash or hanger steak there is certainly enough selection.
Sweet Potato with Poached Eggs
I opted for a vegetarian sweet potato hash with spinach and a few extra ingredients along with a couple of poached eggs on top. My other options were Portobello mushrooms on toast, avocado on toast or a spinach and spring onion chili frittata. The veggie pie offering was Isle of Mull cheddar with sage and onion. Aside from the restaurant food you can try the salad bar located near the grocery shop which you can take away or eat in. Prices range from £11-16 for boards, £5-12.50 for classics, fish and shellfish ££8.5-18.5, meat dishes are £9-15 and vegetarian options £6-12.
Albion Clerkenwell Interiors
The restaurant is situated on the corner of Clerkenwell Road and Farringdon Lane. With windows looking out onto these busy streets, it’s a great place to meet friends and watch the world go by. The space inside is large with different sections including a café, bakery, grill room, snug cocktail bar, oyster bar, private dining rooms and grocery store plus more. It is light and airy with the brand colours of red and white interiors. You can take away coffees, freshly baked goods and salads if you don’t have time to stop.
