Aux Merveilleux de Fred, a French Bakery in Leadenhall Market, is a must for anyone who loves meringues, whipped cream and brioche. I popped along there one lunchtime for a sugar fix and left smiling. Aux Merveilleux de Fred showcases traditional specialities from Flanders by Frédéric Vaucamps, a pastry chef from the North of France. His famous cake is The Merveilleux which you should order on your visit. If you’re looking for City of London bakeries or places to buy cakes in Leadenhall Market, you’ll love this French bakery.
“Treat yourself to artisan pastries and cakes at the enchanting Leadenhall Bakery where you can enjoy The Merveilleux, a super cute meringue and whipped cream cake by Frédéric Vaucamps,” Homegirl London.
Aux Merveilleux de Fred Menu
The pastries are all made on the premises so that everything will taste fabulously fresh. The bakery is famous for The Merveilleux by Frédéric Vaucamps. These are meringues with a flavour of whipped cream inside and a coating of either chocolate shavings or crystallized meringue pieces.
We tried the original dark chocolate and coffee versions. White chocolate, praline, cherry and caramel options are also available. They are sweet with a meringue crunch and light and airy whipped cream filling, a brilliant combination. The perfect afternoon treats if you’ve been out shopping! Some of the Merveilleux flavours are available to buy as round or square cakes, in mini sizes (in boxes like chocolates) and individual small cake sizes.
Mouthwatering Meringue Twists, another speciality, are satisfyingly crunchy on the outside with a gooey filling.
You should also try the Cramique Brioche with chocolate chips, sugar pearl, raisins or a plain version. The Pain au Lait is a brioche dough finger bun available in plain or filled with a dark chocolate ganache.
Try a Croissant made from leavened puff pastry and butter or a Pain au Chocolate if you visit in the morning.
At lunchtime, you can sample the brioche bun with a savoury filling. We thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian option of mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and pesto. With a selection of teas and coffees, it’s a lovely place to stop off for a savoury brioche bun and sweet treat.
