Anyone in the music business will appreciate this vintage On Air version. The brightness can be controlled with a dimmer switch which is an added extra. You have the option to buy different slides if you want to have the flexibility of changing what your box says. See the Light My Fire picture at the start of this feature as another example. You can hang this on the wall or place it on a shelf. It would look great over a doorway entrance just like you’d see at a recording studio. The wording has been printed onto specialist light box film. The frame is made from recycled black plastic while the back is mixed FSC wood. It uses energy saving LED lights with a low voltage. The measurements are 23cm high, 23cm wide and 4cm in depth. The image is 19.5cm square. The power cord is 1.8m – £67 (with dimmer switch added and one film, the price might be lower if the sale is still on) from Oakdene Designs at notonthehighstreet.com. Product code: 422534.

One for the bedroom or a child’s room is this sign which says Always Kiss Me Goodnight, how sweet. It’s made from an old wine box which is a nice idea. With an acrylic cover, LED lights and the lovely saying, it makes a cute gift. This one works using three AA batteries which is brilliant if you don’t want trailing wires or you want to hang it above a door. The measurements are 20cm high, 36cm wide and 10cm in depth – £36.02 from Project 121 at Etsy UK.

For something more vintage looking, these hand painted light signs are very cool. This one says We’re Open which is great for a kitchen. Other versions say Order Here, No Vacancy and Please Wait To Be Seated. The box has been handmade from Tasmanian Oak which has a coating of teak brown stain so that the beautiful grain of the wood is still visible. We’re Open has been hand-painted in red onto a reclaimed acrylic sheet. It has a rustic come industrial vibe which looks quite authentic. The measurements are 7.5cm high, 25.2cm wide and 25.2cm in length. The power cord is 1.2m. It comes with an Australian plug so you’ll need to use an adapter – £118.50 from Bingkai at Etsy UK.

Choosing the Right Illuminated Light Box
Whether you want to buy one of these boxes for yourself or a friend, you need to come to a decision – size, wording and where you’re going to put it. Size is always important! If you want to make a statement buy something big. Choose the wording which sums you up the most or is suited to where the box will be placed. Alternatively, you go for a box which has interchangeable words and sayings. Think about where your box will be located – shelf, wall, above a door, etc. This will dictate if you need a plug or batteries. Hope you find this information illuminating (ha, ha, sorry I just couldn’t resist).
