Dudley’s on Wood Street in Walthamstow, East London, is a neighbourhood cafe serving speciality coffee, brunch favourites and all-day plates in a relaxed setting. It’s an excellent choice for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just a quick coffee stop, especially if you’re exploring this part of East London and want somewhere welcoming with a laid-back vibe. I popped in for their fabulous French Toast, and it was so pretty that I’m still dreaming about it!

Dudley’s Brunch Menu
I had already eaten eggs that day, so I was after something sweet. The espresso butter banana bread sounded tempting, but I settled on the French toast, which was fabulous and beautifully presented. The brioche, with a custardy softness, was paired with a pastel green pipped matcha mascarpone, and a red strawberry lemon coulis plus fresh strawberries. It was subtly sweet with a lovely tang from the coulis; overall, a picture-perfect plate. These cost £5.50-13.
Egg options ranged from The Dogfather, a loaded brioche bun with sausage patty, bacon, egg and a punchy house sauce. Or corn fritters with hummus, avocado and poached egg, and Mrs Patricia, a smoked salmon and poached egg number with smoky hollandaise. Maybe you’ll want to keep it simple with chilli folded eggs. Otherwise, it’s a medley of mushrooms on toast, a three-cheese toastie with onion chutney. Prices are £9-13.50.
The drinks menu offers well-made coffee, from espresso to matcha lattes. I tried the homemade iced tea, which was refreshing without being overly sweet and perfect alongside the French toast. Other drinks include teas, juices, kombucha, craft beers, and weekend cocktails such as mimosas and Bloody Marys.
