Faux succulent plants trend goes potty

Faux succulent plants have gone potty and are adorning all the best-dressed homes.  We’ve already seen the cacti design and terrarium trends, now it’s time for fake plants in the form of various succulents like aloe vera and cacti.  It does seem a little crazy that we’re hankering after faux succulent plants because the real versions aren’t too difficult to look after.  But let’s face it; some of us don’t have much luck with indoor plants so at least you’re completely safe with these fabulous fakes.  They come in all shapes and sizes, from single plants to arrangements, in concrete pots and even presented in vintage books.  Here is my selection to get you started.

My Five Favourite Faux Succulent Plants

The Faux Potted Aloe is super stylish in the smooth concrete industrial pot.  It looks so real that you’ll fool all your friends.  Aloe Vera plants have very short stems and are succulent plants with thick and fleshy leaves in a green colour with some having white flecks on their upper leaves.  The distinctive shape is interesting and perfect for providing a room with decorative detail.  The pot has been finished with scattered pebbles surrounding the plant.  All you need to do is wipe down the leaves with a damp cloth and that’s it.  The height is 40cm and the diameter is 30cm – £60 from Cox and Cox.

This Set of Three Faux Succulents come presented in Geodesic Cement Pots.  These are ultra-realistic but with no maintenance whatsoever.  These are great grouped together as table decoration or dotted about on a bookcase.  The handmade concrete pots are white with gold flecks for a summery feel.  These would make a thoughtful gift for a friend who doesn’t have much success caring for real plants.  The measurements are 12cm high, 12cm wide and 12cm in depth – £55 by Beaux Faux at notonthehighstreet.com.

Instead of a collection of individual plants, you might prefer this Artificial Succulent Garden in Cement Bowl.  It’s a nice arrangement of burgundy and green coloured succulents in a handmade pot.  It’s a cool centrepiece for a dinner table or something to admire placed on your windowsill.  The measurements are 14cm high and 19cm in diameter – £65 by Beaux Faux at notonthehighstreet.com.

I love these Artificial Succulents in Vintage Book Planters.  It’s a nice novel idea (get it, ha, ha!).  It’s a great way to up-cycle books and gives them a new lease of life as a planter for these artificial succulents.  They are unique thanks to the use of different books and the plant arrangements.  The books can be personalised with text or illustrations if you want to make this a keepsake gift.  Measurements vary depending on the book – £29.50 by Beaux Faux at notonthehighstreet.com.
