Ganapati South Indian Menu
We sampled the main menu at Ganapati. Start with a snack of Poppadums, Onions Bhajis or a Pori Salad. We skipped a starter and went straight to the Main Meals choosing the Masala Dosa. Having eaten my fair share of Rice Flour and Lentil Fermented Pancakes stuffed with Spicy Mash Potatoes, I am pleased to say that these were excellent. The Pancakes are large and flop off the metal tray. You get Sambar (lentil Based Vegetable Stew) and Chutneys with it.
The Curry selection includes Kabhani Vegetable, Rameswaram Fish, Manga Konju Prawn, Kadakkal Chicken and Nellaya Lamb. These are all medium hot unless you tell them otherwise. We ordered the Dal (Lentil Curry) as a delicious side. Next time I’ll try the Spinach Dal for variation.
You’ll need to order Basmati or Coconut Rice to soak up some of the Curry. I recommend the Kerala Paratha, a flaky flat bread cooked on the griddle.
You can try a few sides or mains if you share with others. We chose Thoran, which is dry stir-fried vegetables. It wasn’t what we expected because it had Beetroot, but it was tasty. The Nutty Okra and Spicy Aubergines sound tempting.
We were too full for desserts, including Ice Cream, Sorbet, Gulab Jamun and Shrikkland. Desserts cost £6-6.75. Starters are £4.95-£7.20, Mains are £10.75-13.75, and Sides are £2.25-5.75. The lunch menu is from Tuesday until Friday, 12-2.45 pm, which features a selection of Thali Meals – Vegetarian, Chicken or Fish. Or you can opt for the Masala Dosa. The prices are £9.75-12.50.
Add a drink; we can vouch for the Mango Lassi made using homemade yoghurt and the refreshing Nannari Sharbat with sarsaparilla, soda, lime and mint. They also have beers, wine and Masala Chai.
