Our dining experience at Chayote, St Katharine’s Way, London E1, was memorable. Chayote, the restaurant’s name and a pear-shaped tropical fruit with a cucumber-like taste, offers a fusion of Mexican, Peruvian and Spanish dishes thoughtfully prepared with sustainable practices. Chayote stands out as a top choice for authentic flavours from these vibrant culinary regions for those wanting the best Mexican restaurants in London or places to eat near the Tower of London or St Katherine Docks.

Chayote Restaurant Menu
You can begin your culinary journey at Chayote with delicious starters such as Salsa, or Guacamole served with Totopos. Those celebrating might opt for Sea Bass with Green Mango Aguachile and Red Caviar.
Our picks were the Prawn and Jalapeno Croquetas drizzled with a spicy Guajillo Cream Sauce, which my partner ate so quickly.
Meanwhile, I sampled the Cactus Tempura paired with Salsa Taqueria, which was so good that it converted a Cactus sceptic like me. Starters are priced from £8 to £15.50.
The Tostadas and Tacos are a highlight here, perfect for sharing and ranging from £7 to £12.50. Our table enjoyed the Squash, Jalapeno and Pumpkin Seed Tacos, a delightful mix of nutty Squash and spicy Jalapeno.
A personal favourite of mine was the bite-sized taco filled with Girolle Mushroom and crispy Oaxaca Cheese.
My partner tried the Sesame Yellowfin Tuna and Guajillo Cream Tostadas, where the zesty Guajillo Pepper perfectly complemented the Tuna’s mild sweetness.
From the Land and Sea offerings, you can indulge in Al Pastor Skewers, Iberico Pork Cheek Carnitas with Mole, Roast Chayote with Girolles Mushrooms, and a succulent Lamb Barbacoa wrapped in Banana Leaf. These are priced between £7 and £12.50.
Don’t forget to save space for dessert! The Almond and Coconut Meringue Tart was an instant hit at our table, though the Pumpkin Cheesecake and Donuts with Raspberry Coulis and Spicy Chocolate were also tempting. Dessert prices are just £7 to £8.50.
