I had a delightful lunch at La Maison Highbury in London N5. I first noticed this charming café while heading to my beautician’s last week. The name, white-striped awning, and corner location made it inviting. Initially, I stopped in for a cold soft drink, and it reminded me of the café Dex opened in the One Day Netflix series. Later, on the bus home, I looked up La Maison online and discovered it was indeed the Cafe Belleville used in One Day! If you’re looking for a lunch spot near Highbury and Islington Station or a coffee near Highbury Fields, you’ll adore La Maison Highbury.

During my lunch visit, I sampled their vegetarian quiche, which had a perfectly crafted shortcrust pastry. The filling was rich with courgettes, mushrooms, spinach, double cream, and mozzarella, topped with carrot slices. I paired it with two salads: new potatoes with parsley, spring onions, dill, and slivers of gherkin, which complemented the green salad of green beans, broad beans, spinach, red pepper, beetroot, sesame seeds, and a lemon olive oil dressing. This generous serving of quiche and two salads was priced at £11.50.
Other savoury options include spinach and feta rolls and vegan rolls. Perhaps you’ll be enticed by a ham and cheese croissant, kimchi and cheese toasties, or a bagel with egg mayo and avocado, tuna melt, or smoked salmon and cream cheese. There’s also mozzarella and pesto focaccia with aubergine, roasted peppers, and rocket. The small corn and jalapeño muffins looked amazing.
For those with a sweet tooth, La Maison offers plain croissants, pistachio croissants, cinnamon swirls, and various muffins like lemon and poppy seed. In the afternoon, citron, pecan, or chocolate tarts would pair well with a cup of tea. The chocolate brownies looked yummy.
The drinks menu features coffee, tea, and a variety of soft drinks, including ChariTea, Mono Kombucha, and some bottled beers.
