Getting a table for lunch at Padella, Borough Market, London SE1, could take a while. It took us five years to dine there after moving to the neighbourhood, always deterred by the line of waiting diners. However, our fortune changed when we visited the adjacent bank the other day and seized our chance! After eating lunch there, we wished we’d been more persistent because it was excellent. If you’re looking for the best places to eat Pasta at Borough Market or lunch near London Bridge, you’ll love the fresh Pasta at Padella.
“Simple Italian dishes made using quality ingredients at a decent price with a friendly service, what more could you want?” Homegirl London.
Padella Menu
We began with a selection of Antipasti priced £4-12.50. Though seemingly simple, the Sourdough and Le Feree Olive Oil was a hit. The Bread’s freshness and the Olive Oil’s distinguished quality created a delightful start to our meal. The superbly creamy Burrata also left an impression.
We also considered Mixed Italian Olives, Lamb’s Lettuce mingling with Grapes and Tarragon and the Salted Ricotta and Bruschetta adorned with Coco Blanc. Also available are Salame di Cinta Senese and Olasagasti Anchovies Crostini.
The Pasta course presented many options during our visit, priced at £9-16.50. We shared a plate of Ravioli filled with sweet Delica Pumpkin, Westcombe Ricotta adorned with Sage Butter. Another shared delight was the Fettuccine, featuring earthy Wild Mushrooms.
Other Pasta dishes included Tagliarini enlivened with Dried Chilli, Garlic and Pangrattato. Classic Pici Cacio and Pepe. Fettuccine layered with Cobble Lane Cured Nduja, Mascarpone and Lemon. Stracci paired with Pesto Genovese, fresh Spaghetti doused in Puttanesca Sauce. Finally, Pappardelle accompanied an eight-hour Dexter Beef Shin.
Culminating our meal, the Dessert offerings were a sweet epilogue priced £5-7.50. Sharing a slice of Tiramisu, we revelled in its creaminess. Additionally, the Pear and Almond Tart, with its outstanding Buttery Pastry, was a sweet note to end on. Otherwise, it’s Vanilla Ice Cream, which can be transformed into an Affogato, Dark Chocolate Ice Cream, or Biscotti paired with Marsala.
