Rarebit Restaurant Elephant And Castle London

Last week we checked out the Rarebit Restaurant in Elephant and Castle, Sayer Street, London SE17. It’s an all-day kitchen with a bar and grocery store in Elephant Park. Menus cover day, evening, Saturday brunch and Sunday roasts. The Rarebit Restaurant is perfect if you’re looking for new restaurants in Elephant and Castle, the best places to eat on Sayer Street, weekend brunch in SE1, or Sunday roasts in South East London.

We visited for lunch and tried several dishes, including the House Rarebit. Rarebit usually includes melted cheese, beer, mustard, Worcester sauce, flour and egg. It’s not to everyone’s liking, so if you want to try some, choose the half portion. The kids will enjoy the Cheese on Toast alternative. They also serve a Crab Rarebit, which sounds interesting. If you love Crab, you may also like the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Jalapeno, Garlic, Corriander and Parsley Sauce.

I don’t eat Worcester sauce due to the anchovies, so instead, I had the Eggs Florentine. During the Covid lockdown, I attempted to make hollandaise sauce myself. Oh my, what a palaver it was; trying to get the hollandaise perfect simultaneously as poaching the eggs and wilting the spinach isn’t easy. That’s why I will gladly order Eggs Florentine at a restaurant and let them do all the hard work. This particular Eggs Florentine was excellent. Other brunch and breakfast items include Eggs Benedict, Shakshouka, Wild Mushrooms on Toasted Brioche and a large, cooked Breakfast Hash with all the trimmings.

We added the Grilled Peaches with Burrata and Thyme to our meal. The Burrata was super creamy, and I adore Peaches with it. The sprig of Thyme added an earthy and woodsy come minty flavour that was distinct and complementary. Another soft cheese option is the Goat’s Cheese Salad with Beetroot and Charred Orange.

I thoroughly enjoyed the New Potatoes in Garlic, Lemon and Herbs. I was thankful that it was a decent size portion because I was sharing with my partner! Other sides include Baby Carrots with Maple and Tarragon Glaze and Buttered green with Black Garlic.
