I spent Saturday checking out Wapping Docklands Market with a couple of friends. It’s a lovely market that focuses on sustainability by reducing the use of plastic and keeping food mileage to a minimum. You’ll find a food court serving street food with plenty of seating and stalls selling everything from bread to pasta, cheese and gorgeous gifts. It’s a lovely way to spend a Saturday lunchtime, and you can then take a walk along the Thames Path to Canary Wharf, St Katherine Docks or Victoria Park. Join me as I explore the Wapping Docklands Market. If you love London markets or you want to eat street food, you’ll have a fun Saturday.
Wapping Docklands Market Stalls
Make sure you visit the market for lunch and take advantage of the array of food on offer. On my visit, the choice included Mauritian BBQ and Rice Boxes, Steamed Dumplings, Bao Buns, Indian Roti’s and Wraps, Steak and Ale Stew, Pizza, Bratwurst Sausages, and so much more. There’s enough choice for vegans and vegetarians, so if you want to meet a few mates with different tastes, this market can cater for them all. If you prefer craft beer, you can also buy a few bottles to accompany your meal. I noticed a long queue for the ice cream and coffee.
My friend and I tried food from the Lovely Bunch of Coconuts stall, I opted for the Vegan Biriyani (Aubergines), and he had the Chicken Biriyani. We took our food and ate it overlooking Shadwell Basin, which was stunning.
If you want to buy groceries to take home, you could pick yourself up some delectable treats. I spotted bread, cakes, pastries, cheese, fresh pasta, fruit, vegetables, homemade marinades and sauces. I loved the zero-packaging van, which is a fantastic idea.
Those in need of a gift for a friend or family member will enjoy browsing the scented candles, artist prints and decorative objects.
I thought it was a super cute market, buzzing with friendly people with a great atmosphere. There was live music while we queued up for our food. It’s an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Wapping Docklands Market Information
For more information, visit the Wapping Docklands Market Website. You will find the market at Brussels Wharf, Glamis Road, London E1W 3TD. It is near the red bascule bridge across the road from the Prospect of Whitby pub. An added benefit is that the market overlooks Shadwell Basin, a pleasant place to sit down and eat your food. If you travel to Wapping Station, Shadwell or Limehouse, it is a short walk from either of those stations. The market is open on Saturdays from 10 am until 4 pm, with the food court remaining open until 5 pm.
From the market, it’s about a thirty-minute walk to Canary Wharf, which is a tranquil stroll along the Thames Path. I walk to Wapping from my apartment, passing via St Katherine Docks, which is gorgeous.
