Triangle is a cool lifestyle store located at Chatsworth Road, Hackney E5. They sell a mixture of mid century furniture along with new home accessories and gifts. Products include decorative objects, glassware, textiles, candles, toiletries, handmade jewellery and leather fashion accessories.
The Triangle shop has three owners; Tori Mullen who studied Product Design and worked as a visual merchandiser for Nicole Farhi. Mary Wagstaff who studied Ceramics at The Royal College of Art and Matthew Naylor, a graphic designer running his own successful design agency 13One6. Matthew and Mary are a couple and the trio have known each other for about 10 years. They all share a love of design from the mid-century era and had talked about owning a shop for many years. It was a pipe dream until a shop on their local street became available and they snapped it up and began the hunt for interesting stock to fill it. They decided on the name ‘Triangle’ because there were 3 of them and they wanted something simple and graphic to reflect their ethos and style.
To give you an idea of what delights you’ll find in store, here are 5 recommended products to view …
- Karin Andreasson Two Point Necklace Silver, £93
- Sabine Gerth Leather Purse, £38
- Hampson Woods Chopping Boards, £35-£55
- Mid-century Ceramics, £20-£55
- Hand Painted Numbered Bird Houses, £25
The store interiors are simple to allow the products to do the talking. They use a grey palette from the Farrow and Ball range on the walls and the floor is a mixture of broken tiles and concrete. They were lucky enough to inherit some French enamel light shades which work well with the ascetics of the shop.
Tori is the visual merchandiser and keeps the place just like a home to help the customers feel comfortable and be able to picture their furniture or accessories in their own space. Matthew tells me that – “People often comment that they’d like to buy the whole shop.”
Their customers tend to live in East London, most of them on the road. They’re a mix of very design savvy people who want to know the history and origins of the items and people who just appreciate beautifully designed things. They help source particular products for customers and offer a styling service.
Triangle is currently planning ‘Mensday Wednesday’ evening for their male design conscious fans where they’ll get treated to locally brewed beer, hotdogs and other edibles. They are also in the process of designing their own cards and prints which is something to look out for. Triangle is located at 92A Chatsworth Road, Hackney E5 OLS.
